Knee Pain

In the last few days I have been getting terrible knee pain (even when just standing) and I am worried it is linked with osteoporosis as I can't think what else would be causing it. Excerise wise I walk daily and practice yoga. Yoga is always the same flow and it is both knees so I don't think that is the cause.

Has anyone else experienced knee pain due to their osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis itself doesn't cause pain unless you've fractured, although some of the causes of osteoporosis (for example low blood Vitamin D and hyperparathyroidism) may cause pain, though I think this would be more generalised. Are you taking any osteoporosis medication? Bone and joint pain can be a side effect from that. Otherwise it's more likely to be something like arthritis.

Thank you for your reply. I am not on any medication, no. I only take supplements such as VitD and K2, calcium and magnesium. I have a history of hyperparathyrodism, so that might be it. Or too much stress on the muscles around my knees from standing.

Well the same thing started up for me early February, by beginning of March my right knee was so swollen I couldn't bend it fully. Got an MRI on both knees and I have two meniscus tears in right knee, tricompartmental osteoarthritis and an insufficiency fracture of the tibia plateau. My left knee has a complex medial meniscus tear, that may require surgery. Not sure if the fracture is related to the meniscus tear or the osteopenia.... If your knees are that painful you'll likely need MRIs on them.
