I'm taking Prolia but have not fractured as far as I know. Did you fracture after stopping Prolia?

Hi Patsy, I suffered 8 spontaneous rebound vertebral fractures 5 months into a "drug holiday" having completed a 3 year (6 injection) Prolia (Denosumab) course, all under hospital supervision. I had no history of fragility fracture.

Hi Patsy

I had an atypical femur fracture after my 2nd Prolia injection. Had intramedullary rod put in my right femur Nov 28th 2018.

There is damage done to my left femur as well but no fractures showing yet.

I have had just 2 injections so far and no troubles. I have read so much that is concerning and had significant anxiety about taking it, but I was also already at great risk without it. We have to trust our doctors.

No, we don't. Doctors are often woefully misinformed and withold critical information if it suits them. I have lost all faith in the medical profession after being prescribed Prolia unnecessarily and not being told that it's for life. Too bad if you have side effects and have to stop. You need to do your own research and be your own advocate.

Hello Patsy

I also suffered 8 spontaneous rebound vertebral fractures 4 months into a "drug holiday" having completed a 5 year on Prolia (Denosumab) in October 2017. I was first under first a London teaching hospital and then after we moved a smaller local hospital.

On Prolia bones improved greatly but it was because "I no longer in the Osteoporosis range" I was not offered an alterative medication whilst on the holiday, even though I questioned this.

I had no history of fragility fracture. I broke two bones in my foot in 2007 after a bad cylcle road accident (the A&E consultant couldn't believe with all the brusing and the police report that it was only two tiny bones in my foot!) .

The spinal fractures where described by the Consultant Spinal Surgeon as life changing and surgery unadvisable. I am no longer able to work and after about a year started to come to terms with being disabled.

I went through a formal complaints procedure with the Heath Trust (UK) and explored legal action.

I have changed hospitals and once more am accessing a larger teaching hospital.

Do you feel able to share your reason for your question? I hope you have not had a difficulty I am aware there are a number of people who have had serious problems, but it is still I understand highly recommended. I am about to finish the two year course of Frosteo (daily injections) the Consultant discussed options for 'what next' this included going back on to Prolia.

Wishing you well

I didn't experience more fractures as a result of two prolia infusions in 2017, but I DID start to experience much more severe chest infections during 2018 and it was decided to take me off Prolia and go back onto Aclasta injections (Zolendronic Acid) instead. ( I started treatment with Fosamax in 2003 and later took weekly Risedronate tabs for many years.)

I have had severe asthma all my life and am treated for it. It was a very marked deterioration which I experienced in 2018 and when I looked at the "small print" of Prolia, I saw that that is a possible side effect!

So for me, Prolia is not something I would ever want to take again, to be honest, Patsy. I am really sorry that you seem to have experienced a fragility fracture recently.

I broke my hip in 2016 and had to have a replacement hip, after only a simple fall. That is why I was put on Prolia the year afterwards. However, in my case, the cure turned out almost worse than the disease, if you know what I mean.

I have had two falls & had no fractures. Its important that you take Calcium &d3. Vit k4 also. I wish you well with whatever decision you make. Kind regards Joints

Hi Patsy I had four injections of Prolia over a2 year period -towards the end of that time I did research to see what the current story was and became very afraid it. As I am now in my early 60s I thought it might be best if I take a drug holiday now rather than waiting till i am older, with the likelihood of subsequent problems. I embarked on a solid fitness program which was paying dividends. However, i should probably have stayed more aware of potential for fractures.

I have now sustained four more new vertical rebound fractures..

Currently I am managing the pain, trying to get some semblance of normality and then need to determine where to from here.

My life has been turned upside down.

I resisted drugs for many years and cannot believe that after caving into my doctor to take Prolia, this is the position i find myself.

I was a fit, healthy woman - with osteoporosis

. If I had my time again, I would not do drugs I would take my chances on getting a fracture because u get them anyway when you come off this drug. I just do not like the way this drug works.

It’s difficult to make a decisions re drugs Especially when they are so heavily pushed by the medical fraternity. Good luck Research -stay fit- eatwell.
