Can I ask how much we’re talking about and if anyone has actually got T score readings to support improvement off medicine? Thanks

Hi there! I'm newly diagnosed, so following this post! :)

Busymommy, if you look to the right of your post, under Related Posts, you can click on HeronNS's post which gives you the details you have asked for, and if you track her posts, you can read much useful stuff about her methods for maintaining bone health without meds. Best wishes

Yes, this is true. No medication, and in one year my score improved from -2 to -1.6. There is a gentleman who has posted who had at least one t-score which was in the osteoporosis range and he managed to improve to a very good level. Although I believe he took a couple of doses of AA before realizing he didn't want to go that route. I'll see if I can find the reference.

He gives his t-scores in this thread - fairly far down. Look for Aristotle13:

Busymommy, I don't have T scores that demonstrate improvement because I only have this score from a year ago - spine T -2.3, NOF -2.7, total hip - 2.0. I declined meds to see how I could do without them, with improved diet/exercise. My blood bone results are improved on tests November 2018 to March 2019. I will continue with these blood tests because I'm told they will show what change is taking place where, every 3 or 6 months, whereas a dexa scan is only able to show change over a much longer period, 2 to 3 years. This is my personal choice, I have PBC and a few other autoimmune conditions which are challenging, and this is what I have decided on for now. If in time it becomes clear that a different course would have been better, that's an outcome I can accept - I'm doing the best I can for myself. :-)

Hi 220681,

Just curious what blood tests you are getting? Thanks! fm

forwardmotion, I'll let you know if the test is named on the blood results from yesterday. It isn't named on previous two but I don't know that they were the same test. This one was taken yesterday, specifically as I am not on treatment meds but would like to know the current/continuing status of my bones as I attempt to maintain them through diet, supplement and exercise alone. Is this a test that you think you would like to have?

Thank you, I would like more information. My last dexa scan was not great and it would be nice to monitor things to know if I’m heading in the right direction without waiting 2 years.

May I ask, when was your last scan and what are your results?

You need to take into account that the course of bone deterioration or improvement may be different in men than in post menopausal women. Also, premenopausal women and post menopausal women will have a different ability to maintain or improve bone health. Someone who has some bone loss in the osteopenia range may be able to improve bone health more than someone who is already in the osteoporotic range since they can do more vigorous high impact exercise without fear of damage. There are many aspects to take into account before turning down medicines that may help.

ROS latest updates......now weight lifting recommended for OP. My physio told me to do as heavy as I can lift without compromising my technique. Been going to gym for 18 months. Awaiting 2 year dexa so don't know yet if any improvement. Will post results in due course. My scores were not good.

Check out the case studies data on boneclinic.com.au. Lots of evidence of people improving their scores without medication. The program is closely supervised and based around deadlifts, overhead press and squats (as well as balance and core). Look at the ages in the case studies - it is impressive. My only point here is that IT CAN BE DONE - despite what your doctor or PT will tell you. Twice a week is the minimum investment. Hope that inspires some people.
