I take Omeprazole 20mg daily, i have been taking this for 15 months,

is this something that can contribute to me having osteoporosis diagnosis, I don’t understand if this is something I should reconsider taking or not

Hi there, I'm the same being taking it for over a year, I'm going to ask my GP.

It’s also a fact that some folk with gastric symptoms may actually be suffering from too little stomach acid. Our acid production can decrease as we get older. We need strong stomach acid to break our food down and kill harmful bacteria entering our digestive tract. Have you actually had tests done to measure your stomach acid?

It’s worth looking into this aspect. If you google ‘insufficient stomach acid’ or something similar, there’s lots of links to read.

Happy New Year.

Hi I have been told of gastric drugs affecting absorption of other medications. I have been on this medication now Pantoprazole from Omeprazole for many years for control of severe gastric reflux but only recently made aware of absorption issues. I therefore take my gastric medication at least 2 hours after all other morning meds and 2 hours before eating if possible to try to get best out of my diet as well as meds.

Always a balance with all our meds and diet as both very necessary.

I had also been on biphosphonates for a couple of years before my GP told me not to take my calcium supplement for at least two hours later as it can bind to the drug and nor get taken up properly. I do not take any biophosphonates now because of side effects I experienced and have not taken up on injectables. Yes I have had more recent spinal fractures but trying to manage with lifestyle changes and getting most out of diet

I have a scoliosis and osteoarthritis and survived a Aortic Dissection. So plenty to get anxious about and an uncertain future but have an assessment coming up with the Musculoskeletal clinic next week hoping for some support.

As said it's all a balance. It's my body and I try to take care of it but sometimes we have to compromise. All the best.
