Stopping Prolia

I had the first shot of Prolia 8 months ago, it went ok but I’ve read a lot since. I decided not to get the second shot. In just the last month since not taking my second shot I have already dealt with more pain then I can ever remember!!!! My bones and muscles seem to be screaming at me!!! And I have started in with migraines! I’ve already had 2 back fusions in my life and praying there’s not more to come due to stopping this drug. And I pray this pain subsides soon or I don’t know how I will survive it!! I am only 56 years old!

I wonder if something else has started? Is the pain constant, or is it worse after you've been resting, say when you get up in the morning, or after you've been sitting for a while? Side effects from denosumab are supposed to diminish after six months, not start when you miss a dose.

Make sure you're getting enough micronutrients to keep your bones and muscles healthy. A lack of magnesium, for example, can cause aches and pains. Does your doctor have any explanations?

Thank you, but I take magnesium 4 times a day and have been for the last 4 years I also take calcium 4x a day. I’m also gluten free. My pain is constant! It’s there when I wake up after the few hours I can actually sleep , it’s there all day long and still there when I lay my head down at night ! It’s getting VERY hard to take!! My physician just retired so I haven’t been able to be seen as yet, by a new physician.

I asked about the kind of pain because after over a year of pain I was diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica which is treatable, but appears to be hard to diagnose, at least some doctors don't think of it.

Have your doctor put you on hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

Have also had some really difficult pain since stopping Prolia.. one throughout the bone in my foot that left me hobbling for days... but it did go away. It is now attacking my hip and the heel of my hand. I am optimistically assuming these will also abate in a few days.

I AM SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR SYMPTOMS AFTER STOPPING PROLIA AND HOPE THEY RESOLVE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL SHOTS AND DUE TO SIDE EFFECTS, THE PRIMARY ONE BEING SEVERE NAUSEA, HAVE TAKEN A HOLIDAY AND DO NOT PLAN TO TAKE ANYMORE. WHEN I TOOK A 4 MONTH HOLIDAY IN THE PAST, THERE WERE NO SIDE EFFECTS.
