Had one shot of Proleia 6 months ago when I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis. If I discontinue Proleia. Do I have to worry about fractures and do I have to take something else as a substitute. I go to gym and eat healthy diet.

My sister stopped after one as well with no issues. Good choice to stop!

I understood that having a rest/stopping Proleia it is now advised to go on to an alterative medication for 12 months. I had a suggested 'rest' period before this advice was taken on in the UK; I was assured that 6 monthly full blood checks was enough cover. I was very active had a physical job and enjoying yoga, running, walking, swimming, cycling and did daily 'osteoporosis exercises'. 4 months into the rest I started with back ache, then I just could not get out of bed on waking; I had blood tests x-rays etc. Nothing really showed up until a second lot of x-rays 3 months on fractures /damage to 5 vertebras, suggested spinal surgery. It turns out surgery not suitable; I am coming to terms with long-term disability. I understand that the chances of this happening are limited and my story is not what you want to hear. Why not get a second medical opinion to discuss the chance levels of issues involved. Good luck.

Posy-White how long had you been taking Prolia? Did you only have one shot like Miabella12?

No I didn't only have 1 injection, which is why I suggested a second opion to get the facts from a different medical view and for Miabella12 not to just go on what I wrote. I had 5 years of Prolia; first two injections had minnor problems; however improved bone density going into Osteopenia range.

Is there evidence that stopping after 1 injection is safe? If so I am sorry to have worried Miabella12.

I, too, am stopping after one and only shot. Recent research quoted a doctor / osteo researcher as saying no risk of fractures after only one shot. But after two or more, risk increases!

Relieved to read this post - I’m into 6th month of 1st prolia shot and not having another! Causes too much anxiety!

One shot is fine. Two or more and you need a bisphosphonate to cover the risk of rebound fractures. I had 2 injections so am taking the bisphosphonate for 2 years. Horrible but necessary.

Are you then going to be able to stop all osteo pharma meds? Hope all goes well for you.
