Hysterectomy

Hi ladies I just had a total hysterectomy where my uterus and cervix was removed is only been a week since the surgery I been resting but would like to know if we only could sleep on our backs after the surgery are we able to sleep on our sides please advise me

Hello Rlopez. So sorry to hear you needed a total hysterectomy and I do sympathise with you over any problems you may be having with sleeping position. Unfortunately I can't answer your question, but wonder whether you'd be better to post it again on the Hysterectomy Association community page. This is the bone health community (for people with osteoporosis), though there are probably ladies on here who've had a hysterectomy as well. Good luck with finding some answers.

I had a total hysterectomy a few years ago. I slept on my side with no problems. I think as long as you’re comfortable that’s that’s the main thing. If it hurts, change position. My biggest mistake was picking up a Xmas present which was heavy. They say you will only make that mistake once. So be careful of that . That was 4 weeks after surgery. Just had the exact same as you on 13th April. You can sleep anyway that is comfortable for you. Makes no difference. Better to move around carefully than stay in the same position for too long.

I also had a full hysterectomy -16 years ago. I don't remember restricting movement in bed. Just don't pick up anything heavy and dobn't drive - for 6 weeks at least.

Agree with Pattisue, I had a hysterectomy 18 years ago with ovaries kept in place and only remember not to lift anything heavy for quite a while. As Met suggests, this may not be the best community to be asking this question although judging by the replies quite a few of us have had this operation.
