Hi Corlaing,

Of course you must continue with your thyroxine tablet/s or at least discuss this with your GP or endocrinologist, if you see one. I have been taking levothyroxine tabs since a nodular goitre operation in 1966 at the age of 16 years! I have a blood test every year to check that the dosage I take is OK. For years apparently, so my GP told me the other day, I have always been "at the high end of normal" when I receive my blood test result. We had a phone call discussion about it and as he was not quite sure what to do ;) ie lower dosage or leave it the same that it has been for years, I suggested that I go down from 125 mcg daily to 100 daily and he suggested having a blood test again in three months. So between us we came to a decision! The 125 mcg dosage is two tablets so I can easily only take the 100 mcg one.

I get the impression that thyroxine is not so good for the bones if one has been taking too much for any length of time but if regular blood tests are undertaken to check this, it should be ok.

Sometimes we have to weigh up the pros and cons of taking medication for another condition and I personally would never not take my thyroxine tablets.

I hope this helps.

Good idea to discuss this with your own doctor. :)

In-between speaking with your own doctor you could post on the HU ThyroidUK forum if you have not already done so: healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk
