Hi marcar,

That was tough, having to keep on asking for a dexa scan. I presume you had some symptoms to want to have a dexa, or it is heredary or did you fracture? Thank goodness a new doctor arrived at your surgery with a more up to date attitude about osteoporosis and scans. How are your doing on the AA?

I am sorry to hear about your back pain. I hope you feel better soon. Are you able to do any kind of exercise due to the back pain?

Suspect you are in UK. Sorry it took so long for you to get a dexagram. Hope another one is scheduled within two years for comparison to see if this most common anti-osteoporosis med is helping. Did the dexigram indicate any significant bone loss, fracture or fragile bone areas or a...the scan I believe covers your back, pelvis, etc.

Hello again. The medication you're on won't heal any existing fractures, but is designed to slow down the normal shedding of old bone because you are shedding more bone material than your body is producing new bone material at the same rate to replace it. The hope is that your bones will become stronger and prevent future fractures.

Best wishes to you and your newer stronger bones! :)

Yes the DEXA show old Spine fracture.

Yes I'm living in UK for the last 31 years, and I think I done this fracture 30 years ago.

I have 2 sisters with osteoporosis diagnosed in their early 50s when they had distinctive fractures. I've recently sustained a fracture - my GP practice won't sanction a DXA scan.

Even one sister with a number of fractures has only had limited DXA scanning (hip and femoral head - neither of which she's fractured) and her GP has requested one of her fracture site areas and spine but there's no prospect of them as the CCG won't agree.

That all sounds pretty negative. :( Perhaps if you chat with the NOS helplines they may be able to help. Cannot think of anything else you/your sisters can do unless you pay out and go private but why should you? Sounds like it depends where you live as to whether you receive the care for OP, like other conditions. :(
