Calcium and Magnesium causing Diahorea.

Hi everyone, I started on Osteocare Calcium Supplement a couple of months ago. Ever since starting it I have had Diahorea. When I looked at the other ingredients in the Pills one of them is Magnesium, which is known to cause Diahorea. I did some research online and it said you shouldn't take Calcium without Magnesium though.

Does any one else have this problem.

Thank you Attic x

I don't have any problems when just taking the bone supplement I'm on, but after a couple of weeks of taking additional magnesium citrate the problem developed, so I figured I didn't need the extra and discontinued, just add a capsule from time to time now.  Maybe you should try to find a bone supplement with less magnesium in it?  You do need magnesium, but it is available in the diet.

Hi Heron. I have always been sensitive to Magnesium.,I remember years ago taking an Indigestion Remedy  called Milk of Magnesia with the same results. I don't know whether they still make it.

The problem is though, I have been looking online and everyone reckons that if you take Calcium and Vit D without Magnesium, you may be more at risk of a Heart Attack.

What do we do for the best, I don't know.

Make sure you eat foods with magnesium, and take Vitamin K2 (not K1) which will also help protect against heart issues as it's the vitamin that guides calcium into the bones where it belongs, rather than settling onto blood vessel walls where it causes problems.

Sorry my reply above was so abrupt - I was in a bit of a rush at the time.  Over the past few months I've done so much reading and have altered my original opinions a little bit.  But I remain convinced that we can improve our bones without questionable bone medications.  We absolutely must do weight-bearing exercise, especially walking if possible, and we must eat a balanced diet which is good for our whole body.  I'm taking a few extra supplements just to make sure I get enough.  We've also started eating a lot of fermented foods in our house, beyond the usual yoghurt.  🍲☺
