Thank you so much for posting this. So very interesting. We're in a small rural area so many times it seems that care and treatment of HCC isn't as diversified as in larger areas. Thanks

This was very interesting! I always wondered what went on during a Tumor Board. When Dave was first diagnosed, the VA told us he had a tumor board meeting on a certain date and we were so clueless we thought we had to attend! haha

Bill, I just wanted to add that you'll be in my thoughts tomorrow as you undergo your Y-90. Dave's first Y-90 was fairly uneventful as far as side effects - I believe he just had a couple days of light nausea, easily treated with anti-nausea pills. (I had to fight him not to go back to the gym and start lifting weights before his artery healed!)

Here's to spectacular results for you!

Thanks! Tomorrow is the Endoscopy prior to the Y-90. How long after the Endoscopy was Dave's Y-90? I have to do the pre Y-90 and then the one with the Micro Balls. This is for the three tumors. Then when all that is calmed down they will do the one in the other lobe. They say they do not want to do both lobes at the same time.

Oh yes, I forgot about the mapping beforehand! Dave actually did not get an endoscopy; he got the mapping, and then the actual Y-90 with the microspheres two weeks later. The mapping was no big deal at all - his main gripe was having to be wheeled out in a wheelchair afterward! You can see from this photo how he felt about that. 🤣

Did they go through the groin or the wrist? I am thinking he could not drive afterwards, right?

Yes - they went through the groin (they give you a card to keep in your wallet for a short time - maybe a month? with this info) and they did not want him to drive because they used twilight sleep for both procedures.

Depending on how they close the artery (he had a closure device) you have to lay flat for a certain number of hours. They always used the closure device on Dave, and I believe he had to lay flat for one or two hours afterward. I think if they use glue it is a much longer period of time.

I asked because I had a Cardiologist look at my heart and he went through the wrist. A bracelet inflated with air was used to privide the pressure. No laying flat at all! Y-90 can be done through the wrist. My Doctor said if He can he will. Crossing fingers!

Learn something new here all the time. When Jimmy had his Deb-Tace they went in through his groin. He had the closure device like Dave did. Praying everything goes well. Sharon

How cool is that?? I had no idea - I learned something new today. 🙂 I'll cross my fingers on your behalf too!

Hi Wendy. Me too. Had no idea they could do it any way but groin. We're about to get a cold front come through. It's been in the 70's and 80's but dropping into 40's and 30's by tonight. Hate cold weather. Don't know how you stand it up there. 😂. Sharon 💙
