I wouldn't say that was high BP Doug, I would say that was very good BP for your age, but do check with your GP or pharmacist first.

hi just about 2month ago I told my doc that I have a very low pulse rate roundabout 45 to 55 bpm , that's not new its been like for long as I can remember , my doc decided I should have hart monitor fitted , every thing was found to be normal , just to point out before I had any treatment for HB my reading were roundabout 145/ 85 .

If you're unsure Doug, have a chat to someone on the British Heart Foundation helpline:

Heart Helpline - speak with a cardiac nursebhf.org.uk › Information & support 0300 330 3311

They may be able to put your mind at rest. Good luck.

HiI am the same, I have raised BP of about 138/82. However I am pretty fit and carry out rowing/running and some weights 4 days a week. I reckon its just old age and you can get yourself into quite an anxious state worrying about it all. I always try to have my glass of red wine with dinner, I find it calms me down. My hear rate is always about 50/55. My age is 75.

Hi Harry240 I do a relaxation techniques after excising , if you like a glass of wine why not , there good reading you are getting for 75 well done keep it up All The Best

High blood pressure is not a disease it is a symptom of something else that is causing it. If you are the athletic type and do your workouts - you will still have high blood pressure because the underlying problem(s) have not be resolved.

1 - As we get older, the liver has less ability to metabolize lipids (fats)/ the arteries with most everything else atrophies (looses it elasticity and therefore capacity to move blood)

2 - DNA which carries a predisposition to build up plaque in the arteries regardless of diet and lifestyle

3 - Diet - sugar and carbohydrates are the culprits of loading up the artery walls with plaque and along with calcium

The nightmare is you end up with a stroke or heart attack - which then can destroy the quality of life.

Many doctors are unaware of the processes and new methods of measuring your plaque build up and ways to remove this plaque. Why? Many having obtained their license, they do not continue to seek new discoveries and methods. The bottom line is: The buck stops with you, not the doctor. If the doctor fails to give you the guidance and follow through, you are to suffer. So we all must do our own investigation.

Besides possibly the bad hand of DNA that was dished out to you, which today we can not fix, I suggest you do the following:

Obtain a ultra sound scan of the carotid arteries along the neck (insurance pays for these scans)

3 areas of concern:

A -Liver has to become more efficient in metabolizing fats therefore stop producing the plaque

B - The plaque and calcium within the artery's walls need to be removed (medical heads think this is impossible)

C - You have to have the non stop desire to do your own research

------------------------------- Homework for you -------------------------------------

a - find out the frequency of stokes occur just in the US daily

b - go to the University of Youtube and search, "Can plaque in the arteries be removed"

c - which vitamins/minerals are helpful to good heart and arterial inflammation - your heart is working overtime if you have high blood pressure and you have increased artery inflammation.

This should be most helpful for "lesson part I" - :)

HI thanks for your quick response for the information and advice , GPs most be all under pressure getting it right must be a pain , I agree its up to us . so far the medication have taken so far dos not seem to agree with me , so far rashes that make you feel depressed , my doc changed my tables from amlodipine which was causing the rash and swallow ankles to indapamide seems to be ok so far . my HB is more self inflicted from over the years my age group livened through the glam rock and heavy metal years , stopped drinking and smoking 25 years ago .

Doug, just stop worrying and fixating on your Blood Pressure. That lower figure isn’t too bad the upper figure is a bit raised but nothing to worry about. I am 67 and if I got the HB numbers you were getting I would be delighted. At one stage my lower figure was 120 and I was told to stay in the doctors surgery until it came down otherwise they were sending for the cardiac team. I was doing nothing to cause that just going for a routine Blood pressure test with the nurse. My dad had a heart attack at 45 and took his first strike at 48 and had numerous strokes and TIAs till he died at 58…….so I have reached 67 and haven’t had any heart attacks or strokes and my HB is now 130/82. So I wouldn’t worry, you appear to be doing the right thing by keeping fit and keeping an eye on your BP (just don’t watch it too often). Go out and enjoy life…..life is for the living…..it would be worse if you were living with a terminal illness. Enjoy life and stop worrying and remember you are a long time dead

Happy New Year

Glad to hear that have got some use out of this site but remember do take some of the comments with a pinch of salt as everybody is different and what works for me may not work for you and vice Versa….but there is no harm in asking another sufferer what they are going through and what helps them. Glad to hear you are enjoying yourself and enjoying life because to be honest that’s what life is all about and treating people the way you would like to be treated.

I've only just read your post and the replies. What Bobcat says about the underlying issues are indeed the case but by the look of it he or she lives in the States - where insurance would pay for the scans he or she talks about. Not here in the UK.

The best people to talk to are Blood Pressure UK which is the charity concerned with ... have you guessed? They have a useful website which goes into lifestyle and diet issues. I do strongly feel that if you have high blood pressure it is indeed partly down to you to resolve it. Taking pills will help to put right whatever is going wrong in the body. It might take some time to get the right combination of drugs though. There might be a GP or a nurse practitioner in your practice who specialises in cardiac concerns.

Hi Happyroise Yes I did wonder when the insurance was mentioned , This is the first time I have used a site like this I didn't realise as was chatting to hole world .,I don't even use F book or twitter , Am not old fashioned just got better things to do , I have had test done for High BP beginning to realise that that High BP is also an age thing and the docs don't wont to take any chances , So if your BP up they will give you some medication . thanks for the advise .
