Hi Daz.

I'm fully in agreement with your right to hold & express your opinions, always providing they're only controversial & not racist or homophobic, but do you think you might STOP SHOUTING?

Frank

in reply to serenityfrank

Cheers .. Will try :)

All the best

And we're supposed to feel upset that the "we are a grandmother" of this lot won't be getting a State funeral; I feel her sending off should be paid for by Competitive Contract Tendering, which she advocated.

According to that woman "there is no such thing as society" let it be so.

in reply to Davybaby

Yes very true ... Well said or is it here here :)

Mornin hun,

How are you today, I finally fell asleep at 6.15am

I was going to keep out of this but sorry, I get really fed up with people misusing that quote and taking it completely out of context ... What she said was

"There is no such thing as society. There is a living tapestry of men and women and people and the beauty of that tapestry and the quality of our lives will depend upon how much each of us is prepared to take responsibility for ourselves and each of us prepared to turn round and help by our own efforts those who are unfortunate"

I can't see anything wrong with taking responsibility for myself; not expecting everything done for me; and paying my own way. I'm also happy to help those who, despite doing all they can for themselves, still need some assistance.

"They are casting their problems at society. And, you know, there's no such thing as society. There are individual men and women and there are families. And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look after themselves first. It is our duty to look after ourselves and then, also, to look after our neighbours." – in an interview in Women's Own in 1987......................

Obviously she chattered about "There is no such thing as society" several times; I think the majority of the populous got the message she was expounding ME, ME, ME akin to her political children's "Collective of Self Interest" approach.

Ergo, let her family (or her estate) pay for her funeral, at a time when her political spawn are cutting benefits from the poor, ill and disabled, while wasting money on ATOS and top down NHS restructuring.

Mine will have to!

in reply to Davybaby

Agree strongly .... Why should socity pay when like you say she did not beleve in such things

She should of gone and lived in dictatorship .. Nearst thing she could find was ritz hotel

Let hope she don't try privitiasing after life

I see both sides here about Maggie T. But lets have a break from knocking her!

Hello Hamlet

I think that you are being most unfair. You have made comments (not always admonishments) on other questions and blogs on this forum.

I expressed an opinion - ever heard of free speech? Ask the BLF what the purpose of the site is.

Hello Hamlet

'I may not agree with what you say but I defend your right to say it'.

I'm happy for you to express your opinion and, yes, I have heard of free speech.

A few of my friends work as Doctors (only two actually) at my local hospital and a friend's daughter (also a Doctor) is working in Cambridgeshire on medical research. All say that humour is a great help when dealing with patients during their illness.

Anything which makes people (suffering from illness or not) is surely worth it.

Anything which takes one's mind away from dwelling on one's illness is surely good.

I do respect your opinion but I do not agree with it.

Kind regards

Annec

Are you aware of the private finance initiative (PFI) and the party that sold the NHS hospitals into debt that will have bankruptcy for a number of health authorities.

Upsets some when facts are brought up especially when they do not fit with opinions expressed by the writer of a blog.

That's frequently true of most political debates!

As a new member half of me quite likes the fact that multiple topics can be discussed here.

Then the other half observes the level of debate and isn't so sure :-)

in reply to ChrisMK

Just like our govermeant .. But given our lung problems we are bit more proactive in our debates

Well even in Government it takes two to debate!

But I take your point.

For me, one of the major factors in the decline of the NHS was the contracting-out of cleaning services in the 1980s, which led directly to the spread of potentially fatal bacteria such as MRSA and clostridium difficile, as well as other nasties like pseudomonas. These are all opportunistic bugs which thrive in unhygienic conditions.

I've had hospital-acquired MRSA and pseudomonas, which is ineradicable. A close relative died of c.difficile, also picked up in hospital, and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, it's a dreadful death.

It's obvious to me that if you pay people a pittance and de-regulate by contracting out essential services, corners will inevitably be cut. I wish the govt would stop referring to this practice as "making savings".

Hi all.

I have had amazing support for my feelings about being on a slippery slope towards death, information about how to cope, about the NHS in different places, about where to go to get help - etc, etc.

But it's all been about COPD. Are any of you going to stop giving me help because I think differently from you on a political subject which has nothing to do with lung disease? Will it then become unacceptable to have a different colour or racial origin? Or be unable to spell properly or have bad grammar?

I am very uncomfortable about these extraneous subjects being brought in to our community, a community all about helping one another through our illnesses irrespective of other considerations.

Frank

in reply to serenityfrank

I wont ... If can help will :)

Cheers all the best

in reply to serenityfrank

I agree Frank. Maybe we need the odd article that may be of general help or interest but politics is not an easy subject and can cause a lot of ill feeling. I likewise feel that this site should be about informing and supporting in a more health focused way.
