My dad is exactly the same and has had several scans etc and no answers for him. He too looks pregnant. His gets so tight and sore. No one has been able to give him an answer. He is waiting to see a surgeon so hopefully that brings more. We know he has copd ihd and a few other problems. Its actually refreshing to hear of someone with this problem.

Hi I have the same problem, I find Windeze or Windsettlers help. Ask your pharmacist, if like mine they usually know the answer.

I also have a bottle of Gaviscon extra which works wonders.

You are certainly not alone with this problem, It seems to get a lot of us.

I'm in the same boat, Squirell.

It really does make the breathing so much harder, it happens to me after any exertion like climbing one short flight of stairs. I had to buy more trousers with larger waist size and braces to help relieve the problem and just started taking 'Bisodol' which helps a bit.

I went for a 'pregnancy' scan and they told me I probably had a umbilical hernia but nobody seems to be very interested in doing anything about it, maybe because I am almost 73 !

i too have bloating and an umbilical hernia and a hiatal hernia and my stomach bloats and makes breathing very hard..i was told that my lungs are so bad that i wouldn`t survive an op.so i`m stuck with it..i take gaviscon and i have tried rennies deflatine but i think a cup of cold water with bi-carb stired in it works better..and i too had to by braces to keep the pressure off my stomach and anyone who may be interested in braces go to,

amazingbraces.co.uk/..i tried the other clip on type but they kept unclipping from my trousers..hope this helps Bob

never give up .

HiI have had the op.for both, wonderful relief,i can tell you, improved the breathing as well.

I was told the op. could be to dangerous,by the lung specialist, however the surgeon did not agree, saying a good anaethitist, will get you through (sorry spelt wrong!!)

I since had an emergency op.on my bowel,& admittedly went to icu, however my breathing held up well.

Before the ops.i found nexium was the only drug that helped the symptons of the hernia etc.

I wish you all well,& good beathing,

Cheers Wendells xx

Hi Caroll,so sorry to hear you haven't been well. The monitor is probably a good idea,as they can see what's going on there! Sorry you didint like that Doctor, but you know, sometimes the ones we don't like often turn out to be good for us,even though they might not appear very friendly.

I wish you good luck,& let us know how you get on.

Love Wendells xx

Does anybody else wake with heartburn in the upper abdomen too ?.I can rest (sit or sleep) for a maximum of two to three hours before I get firstly, air hunger, then bloated followed by heartburn. This "pattern" is totally exhausting. I'm also a full time carer for my wife, she has MS. I'm currently waiting to see a Cardiac Consultant as my GP thinks I may have congenital heart failure.
