Pulmonary fibrosis ????????

Have just had a call from my doctor regarding the chest x ray I had last week.its shown some signs of shadowing in the lungs so I have to wait for a call now from someone telling me to go for a cat scan in the next 2 weeks , I asked him what it was and he was reluctant to say untill had the scan but indicated it may be a touch of pulmonary fibrosis !!!!! Can anyone give me any info on this? Also would this affect anything different to what copd would, also feeling very light headed last few days,is it all connected ?? And what about vitimim d,would that help.????

Hi Jambo - I think the safest approach is to hang in there until you have had the CAT scan. Once you know precisely what it is you have or haven't got, you can then be sure what the best treatment will be. In the meantime, hold off on the Vit D - while it is fine for copd it would not be advisable to take it if for example you were found to have sarcoidosis. Best of luck with it all and do keep us informed.

Thankyou for the reply,it makes a lot of sense what you say.

Will wait for results of CAT scan.

Cheers

Hi jambo1958

Shadowing on a chest x ray can be caused by any number of things such as infection for example.

Generally speaking pulmonary fibrosis is diagnosed though a series of tests - CT scan, biopsy etc, a chest x ray cannot be used alone to diagnose pulmonary fibrosis.

As always give us a call if we can help - 03000 030 555.

Cheers

At least you must have a good dr.if he can get you a scan within 2 weeks.I had a chest x ray which was showing fibrosis,my doc has asked for an urgent appointment for me,that was 3 weeks go,and I haven't heard a word yet,and this is only to see a consultant.Unfortunately it is probably Ipf,my mom had it at 80 I am only just 63 I am gutted,The only good news about ipf is that Nice have given the go ahead for Esbriet the only treatment that helps, good luck with your scan .Sooki

So so sorry to hear your news,I do hope that all goes well for you,I am still waiting for the call for appointment for scan,so fingers crossed it is in a couple of weeks.

'Esbriet' what is that ???? Would be good to go armed with as much info as possible, would be good to keep in touch, compare notes so to speak.will let you know if any news I think could help you comes my way.

Good luck sooki
