I was at the doctrs thisafternoon regarding my eye infection, had a chat-given cream and refered to Hospital tomorrow for special check up.
My notes were on the computer in view of me, I read that my last visit/6 month check up and chat the doctor had put down 'phsysalogically strugeling with news of being diagnosed with emphysema' I was shocked at that, I do admit I have been taken a back when I was diagnosed but the biggest thing for me was the support-information and probably reasurance from my doctor which I guess I have had none of the mentioned from him.
I would like to thank all on this form for the support and advice since I joined last year, without you's I would not have the knowledge that I have now regarding Emphysema.
Keep up the good work, your so much better thn my GP.

Hi David, I agree that the knowledge and support here is superior to that given by some GPs. Don't worry about what you saw, I think we were all shocked when first diagnosed. It is a shock, especially given that there is so little knowledge of it around and we are often then just left to get on with it. Good luck.
You are suposed to be a good little boy and not ask to many questions,,,,that will be right...BETTER to book a appointment and be polite but firm and find out the full info...hoping you keep well...
that is sooo spooky my own doctor gave me tablets when I was told emphysema i thought for my chest did not say anxiety ever my friend told me citralopan was not for chests.
Hi ya gingernuts citralopan is one of the better antideppressants on the market,,it has very few side effects and does not interfere with your day to day life...wishing you well and good heath...
Hello 1968 I'm glad you feel that this community has been of benefit to you. I feel the same way, and it's good to know that if there's anything at all we are worried about we can come on here and there will always be someone to point us in the right direction.
It doesn't excuse GP's however from being careless or inconsiderate
Very much my experience too, if it hadn't been for a young intern at the surgery briefly as part of his training, spotting that I had a problem and getting me x-rayed immediately, and an appointment with the Stop Smoking clinic, I may well not be here now.
I changed my doctor because he was so unknowledgeable and unsympathetic.
While at Pulmonary Rehabilitation Course a couple of years, depression was the subject of a group discussion. As the debate went on, we could not decide if what our mental state brought us to was actually depression. Then my wife threw another word into the discussion. Disheartened. This brought silence for a few seconds. Then we all tried to speak at the same time. When we sorted ourselves out, it was agreed that we were suffering at times from being disheartened rather than depression.
Disheartened, we sort ourselves out, in time. Sometimes short, sometimes long, but we do it ourselves.
Depression is different, we need help.
The difference between them is sometimes vague. And therein confusion lies.
You know what I think you just nailed it, Disheartened is the key word.
I never felt depressed I was annoyed at the level of service and the way I was dismissed from my GP after my diagnostic, it was as if the questions I had he could not really clarify them, and when I kept seeing him to question things I believe he felt I was a hypo.
So much to take in and so much to research, I would have expected expert guidance and advice not just go away and I will see you in 15-20 yrs if need be. No great advice given on how to manage controll exercise ect.
A well we are where we are, and I have all of you's to thank for what I iknow now about Emphysema.

I paid a couple of years ago to have a copy of my notes for the past 10 years. It wasn't very exciting! One thing which really annoyed me though was a nurse saying my cough was forced....I never needed to force it, quite the opposite. Lol

Oh and that reminds me remember the paper notes years ago? Well I was given mine to give to the doctor when I saw him. I started reading through about my breakdown when I was 19. It wasn't relevant to today and I didn't want it on my records so I went to the toilets and ripped it all out.. Naughty me.
on my doc's notes years back and quoted snappily to me by the consultant was 'she is neurotic and would not allow me to examine her piles' - the doc had refused to have a nurse in with me, so my view was that I was probably being sensible .... still will be there on my notes though - oh, the poor people judgements that can be made especially when docs are being defensive or unthoughtful. many more good than poor ones though I still think.
