I was diagnosed over 5 years ago with severe COPD I was in hospital for almost 3 months I have carried out my consultants instructions to the letter. I have not had one relapse in all that time. If it is too cold or damp I stay in doors. I stopped using all chemical cleaners and only use a steamer. I do not use air fresheners or anything that is perfumed. Most important I never had another FAG. Have I been lucky - I don't think so, it is a case of the Doctor know best and I was very lucky to have one of the best consultants, and an excellent GP who if in doubt contacts the hospital team for advise.

Hi, can I ask who your consultant and hospital are please. I live not far from you and mine is awful. You can send me a private message if you'd rather. Thank you in advance. P

I attended the Whittington Hospital under the Care of Dr Resterick, she is a kind ,excellent , and respected consultant as is her whole team. As a thank you to them I go to the medical schools as a body for the young doctors to examine and diagnose.

Thanks Whittington, I'm in SW19 so dont know if I'd be able to get a re-referral to the Whittinton. Might give it a go though as the old Prof I've seen twice is at St Georges, Tooting and I cannot possibly see him again.

It's great you've got your condition under control but then I'm sure you dont want to go back into hospital again. You must have been very ill to have stayed 3 months.

Stay very well. P

Peeg yes I was terribly ill I was in heart failure because of the lungs not working well, I now have a specific routine with nebulizers and inhallers, I also have oxygen at night, but I do okay. I manage my own housework, slowly but I do it, and go out and walk, somedays stopping more often than on other days, but I persist and try. Dr Resterick told me she thought strong will power to overcome difficulties played a large part in my coming to terms with the illness and finding other ways to cope and carry on, and I must say it works. speak to me anytime take care and stay positive
