I agree Steve

I have taught 'science' for years but the main focus for smoking has always been cancer ...it's a shorter and easier word to grasp and everyone knows what cancer means.

I think it is generally believed by the health publicists that if the threat of lung cancer will not encourage you to stop then there's no point spending lots of money on explaining what COPD is... Im inclined to go along with it .... tho very reluctantly .... to be honest .... since the threat of lung cancer did not stop me smoking ... why would the threat of COPD ..wisdom in hind sight is easy but not necessarily realistic

I agree with your comment to a point there is always some chance cancer can be cured but with copd there is no cure, you know when you have copd there is no cure

Cancer is mutant cells slowly eating away the good tissue. Could be controlled if 'they' find the right treatment.

COPD is damaged lungs, it's like a bomb site in there !

Gorden57 have you seen run from cure on you tube

in reply to Freesteve

Cancer cure exist is true but Lung cancer along with pancreatic cancer is the lowest cure rate

if you get it it's still not if but when for a huge % ... I could quote %s but would need to look up

lung cancer generally kills inside three years .... COPD you can go on for a long time if not smoking, careful with life style and lucky

Wow that is true but so heart ripping

We need more like these adverts to get the message across. I feel sad when I see people buying 200 packs. Give up smoking day tomorrow - take note smokers

I would agree ... But as we have seen on here its not all about smoking i posted answer on blog about famous think tank doing what thay do best

Trying to decive people ... In it thay name droped BLF but thay took and was never asked to contrabute to DWP or IIDB research on chronic lung diease

In it it talked about how thay need to get unions and doctors on side as chronic lung diease is not a term thay would like to use ect ect

And how people will not feel as bad if term used was copd ... I would like to think it was becouse thay cared but its not is so thay can manipulate figures and rip people off

So i would agree with poster of this blog ... If it sounds glum need to ask DWP and IIDB what thay are playing at

i have never seen this advert and i think more adverts for copd would get more people to be aware and donate like i do to BLF but only if they could afford to.

i think i would have give the smoking up years ago if i had of known about copd and its affects but it was allways lung cancer that was mentioned that you could get by smoking when i was growing up so i just thought it was just lung cancer that can kill you from smoking so i would be very unlucky to just get that one thing

last week when i went to the doctors and while i am waiting i have just seen a poster about COPD in the waiting room has i always look at the posters and info and have never seen until now posters or any info on COPD

In the UK they still have the Cancer Act of 1939 that PROHIBITS the publication of ANY cancer cure. The rationale here? As there is NO cancer cure, if you publish a cure, it MUST be fraud. This keeps it illegal for lamestream quackos to even mention a cure.

The TV adverts show how COPD progresses and takes away things from your life, `yes heart breaking !! `but where is the advert to raise funds, to find a cure, to give hope to those that have COPD, and remember before these adverts nobody told us about the damage to the lungs, The taxes we smokers and ex-smokers paid on cigarettes, millions of £'s still get taken in tax on tobacco products but how much gets ploughed back in to finding a cure ????????? Smokers and ex-Smokers paid in to the NHS twice, ( the standard way all of us do but smokers got hammered in taxes so we should get extra back for research and cures, not less !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
