Hi There, when claiming DLA do you put the date you were diagnosed with RA or when it first affected me 8 months ago, my GP & Chest doc have indicated the RA has badly affected my Lungs in this period. mattcasss

The date affects on ability that is on the form would be what I would use because they have a qualifying period for disability that it has been that way for more than 6 months, I am no expert get more help if any doubts the BLF helpline have specialist advisors.

I got help filling in the form, but the words that stuck in my mind were:

You don't have good days, only better days.

Good luck

Hi mattcass

When completing a DLA form - yes definitely put down when you were diagnosed but also extremely importantly when your symptoms starting causing you problems with your personal care and mobility as you need to show you have had the problems for 3 months and expect to have them for another 6 months.

Please give us a call at the Helpline - 03000 030 555 and we can go through this with you in more detail.

Cheers

Jo

Hi, I would suggest that you get assistance from your local CAB or DIAL Group before you complete the form. I did it on my own and I had to go to court to get what I was entitled to. It took me two years to get DLA.
