To report a private message - go in to the message, look to the right of the screen for a bit marked 'In this message', it lists the people in the conversation, should be you and the other person.
Type in Moderator in the little box below the list box and hit return, that's all you need to do. The Moderator will be included in the conversation and can take the appropriate action.
If you see something objectionable in a blog or question there's a report button, there isn't one in a private message.
Don't respond in any way and please don't delete these messages. The Moderator can gain useful information about the sender and block them.

I once made a comment on a news website and received a comment back, in full view of the other comments asking me to send my details to his private email address as he would like to get to know me better.

I've not had any of these messages so can't do much first hand, and it's down to the individual to take external action if they feel they should involve the authorities.
Until someone sends me a message I'm stuck on being able to go any further than I already have done, giving info on how to report the abuse.
