Hi, many people have copd yet have a good sats result. Even when I'm really struggling my sats are fine, even though I'm at the severe stage of copd. I would trust what your doctor says! Libby

Hi, well Gordon's right, copd covers emphysema and bronchitis, but it sounds by the use of the word "moderate" that you have emphysema. I don't know for sure when the stages began with me - I was diagnosed about 18 years ago when it was mild and I was still at the moderate stage until about 5 years ago after a bout of pneumonia when it went to severe. However, I didn't give up smoking until 3 years ago and carrying on smoking with this disease is an absolute no no, so if you still are then you must give up now which should slow the progress of the disease considerably. Look after your general health, make sure you get your pneumonia (once in a lifetime) and your flu jab every winter, and get as much exercise as you can. Like Gordon says, phone the BLF and they will send you a very useful pack with all the info you will need to manage your condition. All the best, Libby

COPD includes emphysema. Call the BLF helpline on 03000 030 555 and they can have a chat with you, as well as sending out an info pack that will help explain what it's all about.

Don't let it scare you !

Its Not All Grim .... Just Have Keep Things In Prospective People Deserve The Truth ..... Sorry Its Not What Any Of Us Would Like To Hear ... But It Can Be Manged Unlike Those From 30 40 Years Ago Who Lit Had No Chance

Anyway Here's Why I Said What I Did

DWP And IIDB And There Lets Not Dingoes The Workers VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION WHAT WORKS, FOR WHOM, AND WHEN?

Talk About Keeping Professionals On Side DISAPPOINTED BLF At Your Contribution ... It Should Be Called Lets DWP And HealthCare Providers Cover Up Serious Illness

How Should One Feel Really LIKE A Cash Cow ...... But Yes For A Start A Popper Dingoes Or Treatment Or Is That Sick's Fault To

daz may i ask what stage you are with copd

in reply to music

I Hope It Minor But To Be Honest Think Its Bad My GP Compounded My Problems With Not Referring Me To A Lung Specialist ..... Or Giving Me Antibiotics Got To The Point Hospital Was Asking What He Was <D>oing For Me

Then You Start Thinking All Sorts Like That Liverpool Pathway Thing .... But There Is No Point Obsessing

in reply to

Hi

The BLF had no part in the report that "daz" links to above because we were not asked to contribute or comment.

As the introduction to the report says....

"The authors were commissioned by the Vocational Rehabilitation Task Group (a group of stakeholders representing the UK Government, employers, unions and insurers) in association with the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council (IIAC), to conduct this independent review of the scientific evidence. The authors are solely responsible for the scientific content and the views expressed, which do not represent the official views of the Task Group, IIAC, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), HM Government or The Stationery Office"

Thanks

Hi Thanks For Putting Me Right Or Is That Write Anyway Cheers .... A Retract Bit About BLF As I Was All To Much And I Only Seen Contribution Bit

Potability MisInterpretation Never The Less It Worked On Me So Would It Of Worked With DWP And IIDB ..... Seeding A Think Is Terms Thay Like To Use

Yes A Was Shocked And Made For Grim Reading But I Do Think DWP And IIDB Do Use Likes Of Reports Like That To Seed Government Policy

We Only Have To See GEC Atos And DWP Welfare Reforms To See This Is Policy They Have Chosen To Follow

Example DWP Judges At Tribunals Must Sent Letters Out With Refused B4 Even Left There Hearing .... But As For Statemeant Of Reason You Have To Wait A Month

Good idea music :) and, as others have said, it's most definite not a death sentence. The amount of oxygen in your blood ("sats") has very little to do with how we struggle to breath, but it's vital to maintain the health of our major organs, i.e. heart, kidney, liver ....... I'm sure the Helpline will explain, and advise, much better than I can ...... so all the best :)

I can only support what everyone says. It is not a death sentence, exercise will improve matters a lot, giving up smoking is essential.

I am moderate with copd (emphysema) but my sats are 99%. It doesn't stop me doing anything.
