Can anyone reccomend a good place for a holiday in the Uk for someone in a wheelchair? My husband has COPD and is on oxygen 24/7. I have thought about Butlins at Bognor but would like a change.
We live about 15 miles from London about 5 minutes from the end of the M3.

Depending on taste - Butlins wouldn't be for me!! Tried it years ago but then things could have changed. Thinking because I have a buggy --- I would try googling your needs. For me, I wouldn't want to be in a big crowd. All sorts of things go through my mind but not sure about the disability aspect. I would be interested if you came up with anything, Jean
You could check out the disabled holiday directory on line. Havn't used it myself though. From a personal perspective, we went to Challaborough Bay in Devon with Parkdean holidays. We had a concentrator and cylinders delivered there and Parkdean couldn't have been more helpful.
Depending on how far you want to travel, Weymouth is lovely and flat with a nice long promenade and plenty of holiday camps and hotels, some nice ones on the sea front. Wherever you decide, you can arrange for o2 to be delivered there. Also, not far from where I live is Porthcawl, south Wales and as well as being very wheelchair friendly there is the glamorgan holiday hotel. Right across the road from the seafront and the town center it is in a brilliant location and offers holidays to those with care needs. It is not cheap but highly recommended and they look after all your needs x

I have heard that Warners Hotel group is very good for people with disabilities and there is lots of entertainment on site.

OK, I'll admit I'm biased because I live here but Weymouth does have a lot going for it. It's mostly flat and has a long beach. Judging by the number of mobility-assisted "Hell's Grannies and Granddads" it must be OK for wheelchair users and much of the town centre is pedestrianised. Not a big place but a lot of variety. Accommodation ranges from holiday parks to posh hotels.

I am off to Brixham south devon. Brixham is very hilly, but I take a mobility scooter. Essential as means my wife does not have to push me, and I can get a good ten miles out of it between charges. We will visit Paignton zoo and the sea world place at Plymouth, both disabled friendly. The main thing is planning. I telephoned the park I was thinking of and spoke with the manager. I was allocated a small cottage just 200 yards from the main facilities, entertainment, and cafe facilities. Shop is nearby, as is the car park. I have been to the zoo at Paignton and know this is very hilly. But when last there hired an electric scooter, although this year have my own. With a bit of planning it is possible to go almost anywhere. We often have weekends away. I telephone my chosen venue if a hotel. And it goes like, I have emphysema and cannot walk far as I get breathless. I want to stay at your hotel. Have you a ground floor room ( stairs is a no go unless there is a lift). Do you have parking ( My wife has to carry in the electric scooter battery to charge for next day in the room). If they cannot help you ask them if they know of anyone else that does. Have a great holiday wherever you go
A lot of hotels can have oxygen delivered for your use and many places are wheelchair freindly. There are a small amount of holidays available for more severly. disabled disability now on line as a few holiday homes available.I hear very good reports about the glamorgan hotel near porthcawl.Online is the best place to search and as stated above planning is the only way to do it. Good luck with getting a suitable holiday.
