Hi, I have severe copd and also get very tired during the day as well as at night , everything seems to take so much effort and take much longer to do , i end up sitting down part way through jobs , and get quite annoyed with myself . I think the idea is you are supposed to pace your self and take things steady, I am not good at doing that so get worn out ;-) ,Have you had a recent checkup to make sure you are on all the meds you can be to help your condition , what stage is your copd ? . Have you been to Pulmanry rehab as that can be great help . :-) . Su.

Hi Su I got pneumonia at 18yrs, then left with Asthma, went on to be Bronchial Asthmatic ,then c.o.p.d about 7yrs ago I`ve had a few exaserations really bad ones the last two they booked me a bed in I.C.U, I was terrified so I maybe quite severe, when you say pulmonary rehab do you mean C.O.P.D clinic where you can go anytime you feel bad and you are seen to straight away and sent home with a nebuliser and the nurse comes out for 2wks etc. ?

I just got diagnosed with it today and I truly want to stop smoking cause it's making it worse.. And it hurts in my chest and everything.. I think I have been having it for a while and just kept ignoring it and now I found out today so it's a disappointment.. Cause I know it has to be in a bad stage if I'm always tired and it's hard for me to exercise.. But the Dr gave me some nicotine patches and 2 inhalers so I hope that helps coping with the fatigue, nausea, lack of energy, and just to tired to do barely anything.

Hello kellypitts351 . Hi and a warm welcome. I am sorry about your diagnosis. This is a very good place to come and get and give support. There are many on here with different kinds of lung issues but the aim is to help each other as much as we can.

I guess your doctor has already advised you to stop smoking. I have heard that it is very difficult to do. There is a quit smoking forum on the British Lung Foundation site as well. You may find it helpful.

Right now I know it is all very overwhelming, but take your time. Get yourself into some light exercise if you can. Walking has always been good for me. Eating healthy meals and getting enough rest all count. Many people with COPD live long and productive lives so please don't think it's the end of the world.

Also, this thread is five years old. Perhaps you'd like to make a brand new thread so everyone can get to know you. 😊 It's so nice to meet you.

Hello Wendy and welcome. I get tired by the evening but can't decide whether its the condition or just what I do throughout the day.

Hello Wendy nice to meet you! this is indeed a great place to come and learn about copd, I am always nodding off before the end of a film or program its realy hard fighting off the tiredness that comes with this illness! Perhaps you should mention it to the doctor though as you may be a little anemic, need some iron or a tonic. I know I should pace myself but like Zaney I wear myself out a lot! Pulmanary Rehab is usualy exercising with a group of people who have copd and you meet up perhaps once a week, you need to ask about it at your local doctors surgery or you could phone BLF and they might know if there is one near you.

Bye for now, Carol xxx

Hi Wendy,Welcome to the site.Yes I am sure we all get somewhat tired at times, but like Carol & Zaney, often when trying to over do it,one should realy pace it out,but a bit hard to remind ourselves at times!!

Maybe you need new spirometry tests done?

Cheers Wendells xxx

hi i am also tired some days more then others. i think its because we forget we have c.o.p.d. and we try to carry on as normal . m daughter comes in does all my house work although i still tend to do a little tiding round daily. but i find lately iv been sleeping a lot longer. some mornings i cant be bothered to even get up before midday. i do think its a mixture of the c.o.p.d. and depression with me. however has i said i try to do alot of different things so i guess its also that catching up. i think its fair to say you may be the same or similar. my doctor told me that what takes me normally ten mins to do should take longer as you need to set a pace same as walking if it took ten mins before to get some where double that and that way your not pushing yourself to much.

Thankyou everyone you are all so kind, I can see I will learn a lot from you all. The only thing which is the hardest is making your mind understand that your body can no longer do the same things that it used to, or it just takes longer, I get so frustrated at times I am in tears,I also like pearlsmith am being treated for depression something I have never had before, as you all say I will have to pace myself. The thing I can no longer take is Bricanyl Inhaler, I am on Seretide Accuhaler,Spiriva and Ventolin is that what most other people take? It seems to be ok. for me when I am well, when I have an exacerbation it`s the rhesus dept. and the I.C.U. that scares me. x xTake Care All Wendy x

Hi paijejo, welcome. I too get very tired during the day, have a short nap, then come the night I am exhausted again, go to bed, then can't sleep, or have fitful sleep on and off. I think it may have something to do with condition as all COPD sufferers that I have met have the same problem.....perhaps lack of exygen getting to the lungs, anyone else have any ideas? x

Hi Wendy and welcome to the site. We all seem so nice because we are! :)

I only have asthma and borderline COPD but I take naps and I get tired a lot. I also suffer with insomnia and take something to help me sleep. But I think thats depression.

Hi, I am always tired, annoying when I am used to working in quite a fast moving job, that I have had to give up due to poor health.

I seem to have settled into a routine of resting first thing and playing scrabble on line.

At midday I get up and take the dog for a good walk, grab some shopping (I use a backpack), home, make up a meal and back to my bed and resume online scrabble again. I frequently fall to sleep and this causes me to be awake through the early hours.

I always sleep with the window wide open. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing. But I feel as though the fresh oxygen may help a little.

I am also on antidepressions med, although I dont think I need them tbh.

I was diagnosed with COPD the end of September 2013. I had been telling my doctor for years that I had this terrible cough and I would get winded when walking. It took me ending up in the hospital because I couldn't breathe before I was diagnosed. I have no idea how severe my COPD is. My doctor insisted I use oxygen when I go to bed and if I am walking for more than a couple of minutes I have to use it. My big concern is being so tired and i don't want to do anything even working on my computer seems to wear me out, plus my cough is still bothering me most of the time. Besides the oxygen my inhalers are Advair and Ventolin albuterol. I am in the United State so the medications may be a little different. Thanks so much for listening you are a terrific group!

Hi everyone my husband has copd with sleep apnea he is on steritide inhaler over the last 3weeks I think he has got more tired some days he has no energy and others he has if he keeps doing jobs he doesn't sleep during day but sometimes he sits and then he's asleep he hasn't had no X-rays only the peak flow but would like answers if it is getting worse I have read that steretide 500 is the highest inhaler so does that mean he will need oxygen can any one suggest x thank you
