Me too, hate it! Have to wear my jeans under my belly. Had no idea there was a name for it! I will have to look it up

Now you come to mention it.... :)

Since I stopped smoking, 4 years ago, I've put on 4 stone in weight, most of that in the last year and a half. Sounds like I need to be looking for maternity wear to feel comfortable ? I try to avoid wearing trousers or jeans as they slide down too easily, not that I would lose them altogether, but leaving a gap - not nice. I don't like the pressure on my stomach of I am sitting down in jeans, around home I wear mainly jogging bottoms or even stay in pyjamas some days.

I should exercise more, I used to walk about quite a bit when I was working, but my range has dropped a lot as my breathing got worse. I have tried some basic chair exercise I was taught a couple of years ago when I attended an over-50s class, having realised I wasn't pregnant Now they really wear me out and I can't do 10-20 of some of the movements like I used to.

There are names for this condition, abdominal swelling, distension or just plain bloated. Some hints and tips from the NHS at :- nhs.uk/Livewell/digestive-h...

Of course, if it's a problem then your GP needs to know - mine just said 'lose the belly', not very helpful really.

I have gained 3 stone and a bit more in under a year to the point that I no longer recognise my body and I hate it! I try to excercise and have attended pul rehab but the fatigue just makes me feel so ill and really struggle now to do anything.but it seems that so many of us are struggling with our weight one way or another. If you find out how to lose it all please let me know! luv Lorraine xx

Hi I hope you don`t mind me answering as I am new to the site, I too stopped smoking 5yrs ago and put on 4st but try these they are working wonders for me, go on e-bay, and look for Rasperry Ketones and Green Tea Colon Cleanse, I buy from Volcanat Health they are very reasonable prices, they have worked wonders for meI have lost nearly 2st in just 2months.They really work for me.x x Wendy

Many years ago a group of ladies entertained us and made a living out of being 'The Roly Polys', as featured originally by Les Dawson on his TV show.

There, we're smiling about it now ! :D

They used to say 'happiness is egg shaped' in the adverts - remember Tony Hancock and Patricia Hayes back in 1965 ?

What they didn't mention was that we would end up looking like a fried one standing upright !

I'm glad it's not just me lol. I expected to gain weight when I gave up smoking and I could live with the half stone in 3 months but since the lung specialist here in Cyprus had prescribed several different inhalers and uniphyllin I have now put on another stone and a half in the last 3 months. Think I'm having twins maybe triplets so I've ordered the green tea and raspberry ketones as I get strange looks when buying maternity clothes :)

glad i`m not he only one!! weight gain can also be due to taking steroids the weight is put on in specific areas ie the stomach, under the chin and round the back of the neck !! My weight is in these areas and as i havent eaten anymore since i gave up smoking ive put mine down to the dreaded steroids!!

i try to exercise but also having arthritis in both my knees and my hip i find it difficult! Ive decided when the weather warms up a bit i`m going to start taking my little dog out for a walk every day and try to walk a little further each time - no matter how long it takes me luckily my dog is happy to go at my pace!!

I have a healthy diet and apart from exercise i dont know what else i can do!!

Until then as i have said before-- i¬m not fat - just short for my weight!!!

I put 2st on since taking medication for emphysema,I've done all the rehab exercises and the gym for 20 weeks like I was told to do,I know exercise in the house with weighs and the stairs but the weight around the middle wouldn't move,I go to my local Breath Easy Club and the hospital for check ups and see a lot of COPD sufferers the same shape as me.But the Doctors and Nurses say it is nothing to do with the Medication.

Please move over and let me in the boat as I am the same as everyone else .For forty years I varied between 10 stn 7ibs and 10st 10 lbs since taking medication I have got a pot belly and I HATE IT , I now weigh 11st 9 to 11st 12lb although I am active I have been told there is no excess fat on me so I exercised in vain trying lose weight .Waist went up from 32 waist to tight 34 so have to get size 36 having no hips they fall down so had to buy a couple of belts.

Here's one for Gordon I found a brilliant belt on Amazon it has nice leather ends with black woven elastic in the middle and does not restrict breathing at all and keeps trousers in place and also the elastic is at the back it saves embarrassing moments of trousers falling down one gets fed up of wearing tracker bottoms for five years.

Anyway save the children charity has benefited as I put all my shirts and trousers that no longer fit in their collection bin . I need to print this page to show my daughter as she does not believe me when I blame the steroids

I am in good shape!!!!!

ROUND is a good shape!!

Like most of you I too have developed a more rounded shape, have done the rehab and do my exercises but nothing shifts it, thought it was because I dont move about as much as I used to so spoke with my doctor. He said the amount of steroids I take will not be helping along with all the other medication and that some people get this along with the more rounded face, which I also have, unfortunately there is nothing that can be done. I find that it inhibits my breathing especially when bending down, which again dosnt help. Would like to know more about the Raspberry Ketones etc, can anyone help me with that?

I read the replies daily and think okay I am not the only one. It somehow gives you peace of mind to know there are lots of others in the same boat. Yesterday was a family outing to a restaurant and I made an extra special effort with my appearance. (ditched the jogger pants) Iwore a nice slimming pair of black trousers and a quite loose fitting cashmere jumperI felt quite proud of myself, until my eight year old grandaughter looked me up and down and then commented :mama you look really nice but somethings different about you, I think you ve shrunk. I decided to skip the pudding . xxx
