Hi i woner if someone could advise me has i am new to this and must admit a little scared has been told i have moderate copd by my doctor after haveing a spirometry test.

The strange thing is the person who done the breathing test said i have mild empytsema and when i went to my gp i was told i have moderate copd.

I have never heard of copd but i have empytsema, i ask for a print out of my results but just cant get my head around it all and all i want to know is how bad i am has i dont understand what these readings mean.

thanks Paul

You're on the BLF (British Lung Foundation) forum here, they have loads of info on their website. Follow the links I give here, just click on the blf... part

COPD is explained here: blf.org.uk/Conditions/Detai...

COPD stands for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is the name used to describe a number of conditions, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema, where people have difficulty breathing because of long-term damage to their lungs.

As you are recently diagnosed, have a read of this page: blf.org.uk/Page/Recently-di...

Call the helpline when the are open, Mon-Fri 10am-6pm on 03000 030 555. They can have a chat with you and also send out an information pack that includes a DVD you can watch to find out more.

Understanding your results will be more meaningful if you can talk to someone about them.

Hi

Please do as Gordon suggests and call the BLF helpline on Monday - 03000 030 555 - and speak to one of the nurses. Those test results need a short discussion - need to find out more about you - the results you have quoted mean very little without the background.

Thanks

Mark

Thank you so much gordon and mark for info but i did chat to a nurse last week from BLF and sent to her my spirometry print off results that i got from my GP FOR 5£ and the nurse replied by email to say that.. my copd results show moderate and that for the test to pass quality control you have to see the actual results and my GP has not given me this???

All i wanted to know was how bad my moderate copd is or how close to the survere stage am i has all my doctor said was dont worry and have another breathing test next year to see how i am doing.

I so glad i can get to chat and read other info from people who have this nasty lung disease and not sure what i would have done with out the help and advice from BLF

Thank you so much

Paul
