Have you seen a doctor - you dont mention seeing one and I really think that you have to get medical advice. Your condition needs a proper diagnosis - certainly you sound ill. What you need to do is to ring NHS Direct this evening and talk to them. Have you a temperature? Get on that phone. If you dont know the number, it will be in the directory. All the best

Thankyou, yes i will phone NHS direct, i am rather worried. My temperature is 38, and my shoulder blades are sore.

ABSOLUTELY GO FOR IT and let us know how you get on in due course.

thankyou for replying. i did go to A&E last night, (as i have before), and they put me on the nebuliser for half an hour, gave me a chest xray, and lots of prednisolone. doctor also gave me some antibiotics, but said chest was congested rather than infected. Obviously due to flu virus and copd. i feel a lot easier now ive been checked out, but still very breathless. have a weeks supply of prednisolone, so should be ok then.

Hi, if you've had flu, after a week you should be starting to feel better. I can only go by what happened to me a few years ago (I have emphysema, but was still pretty active and still working), I felt the same as you but kept thinking I'd "be better tomorrow" and ended up going to A&E, was admitted straightaway and stayed in hospital for 10 days with pneumonia, So, if I were you, I would definitely call the doctor out asap. You shouldn't really take any chances when you already have respiratory problems and it's recommended if you have flu to see the doctor anyway when you have copd. Best wishes, Libby

thankyou for your reply. i went to A&E last night and had the appropriate treatment, and given a supply of prednisolone for a week. feel easier i went, so hopefully my breathing will become easier now. congestion is obviously due to having the flu and with copd itt always hits the chest doesnt it. Thankyou, yes i went to A&E and had treatment, and am now on prednisolone for a week, plus my usual inhalers. Thankyou for replying, its good to chat with people who understand, helps make you feel better.

you can get a once in a lifetime pneumonia jab (after you have recovered) to avoid this in future - ask the doc. hope you feel better soon.

in reply to

Yes, i had the flu jab last winter, but i still got flu and problems with my chest, so i am reluctant now, but as you say thos is a one off pneumonia jab that sounds good, and i will definately speak to my doctor about it. i am in my 60s now, and had copd for 6 years, and i want to enjoy what future is left. Thankyou for your advice. Regards.

in reply to

Have had copd for 6 years.

I have had the once a lifetime pneumonia jab twice. Didn't argue, having had pneumonia.

Hullo, sheepdog, glad you are feeling better. Spring soon which will make us all feel better, love Annie80

Hi, thankyou for your reply. you know you said you had the pneumonia jab twice? i thought it was a once in a lifetime jab? are there any side effects.?

in reply to

None reported - two for the price of one! I trust my nurse. It think it was a different strain.
