Hi Semara

First time I came across bronchiectasis was about 15 years ago when I met two women in their 50s, both of whom had had bronch since childhood. One was only 11 and cannot remember exact age of other one, but was equally young. From memory, the 11yr old contracted hers after a vicious bout of whooping cough.

Hi Semera

There are a few genetic causes of bronchiectasis whereby they will have it from birth. Cystic fibrosis is one (they test for this in babies now when they do the heel prick), primary ciliary dyskinesia and a few others.

Other than that brochiectasis can be acquired at any age. Personally I have had bronchiectasis since I was 5 months old following double pneumonia and whooping cough.

I am quite interested what the reason is you asked. Do you have bronchiectasis or know someone who has?

Love C xxx
