Want to purchase a nebuliser not for medication but to be used for saline so can be used couple times a day to loosen mucus to bring up. Had it in hospital when had pneumonia. Anyone got one and would recommend.

If you have a consultant Staffi you may want to ask them if the hospital loan out nebulisers. Most folks with bronchiectasis I know have them on loan, and the beauty of this is they are checked over or changed once a year and you get a new set of tubing and mask or mouthpiece, as prefered. The one we are loaned is the Phillips Resperonics Porta-neb. I use mine to neb bronchodilator, followed by 0.9% saline or 7% hypertonic saline.
If you can't get one through the hospital, then I am sure someone will come along with some good recommendations for you soon.

Mine is on loan too, like cofdrop says they are checked every year. Please ask about getting one before you buy one.

We went to GP today as he was very hesitant about NHS supplying one. We said we were prepared to buy one anything to enable quality of day. Have been using old fashioned type inhaler of steam but after being is hospital found the steam from nebuliser so much better. Our consultant is in London hospitall and we live in Kent unable at this time to see him anymore because of other health issue. Not under a local consultant as GP looking after us. Thanking you both for your advice. Will give it some thought. We try to do anything just to make everyday a little better. x Elizabeth.
Staffi - just a thought - maybe you could 'phone your London consultant's secretary and explain the situation and ask if cons would consider nebulising beneficial for you as you found it so helpful when in hospital, and if so is it possible to have one on loan from the hospital - if someone could pick it up for you.
You can get prescriptions for bronchodilator vials and for saline 0.9% from you GP from the start. Hypertonic is a little different, as you need a tolerence test at the hospital first and GP can prescribe thereafter.

I mentioned buying a nebuliser to my doctor and he advised against it as it was a last resort, but I want one to loosen mucus like you Staffi. He said I would have to buy my own. I mentioned it to the resp. nurse at the surgery but nothing has happened as yet. Will be seeing her in the Spring.

GP told us if we get a nebuliser let him know and he would give us prescription for saline etc. Feel nebuliser would greatly help at home and miss the four hourly mist which kept airways moist. We will see and give it more thought. Thanks for taking time to replyx Elizabeth x

I have a Medic-Aid Porta-Neb it was supplied by the hospital but I buy my own spare masks etc and get my prescription from the doctor. There are plenty out there to look at even on Amazon, my sister has bought one for me from Healthcare4all so that when I visit her I don't have to take my own but as others have said try and get some advice on which would suit you the most

You need to speak to your surgery because you may find that you are entitled to one from the NHS, my husband had his supplied through our community matron.
