have you tried for disability mobility,if you get that at higher rate you can have a car instead of your weekly allowancer, with this is all you pay is petrol,no other payments at all, hope this gives you some help

Hi, I have taken this from the DirectGov DLA site - you can find more information here:-

gov.uk/dla-disability-livin...

so it's best you have a look at the DLA info online.

There would be a medical assessment and the criteria for the mobility element is:-

can’t walk

can only walk a short distance without severe discomfort

could become very ill if you try to walk

Best wishes, Libby

Oh dear sounds like my car will have to be pensioned off and i will have to get fitter.

How about a bus pass? Your doctor can sort you out if they think you need it.

When working, I often have to walk and also get breathless, but I try to think of it as good exercise to be honest.

Disabled bus passes are for any age.

Exercise is good and a 20 minute walk is a good way of gaining that exercise. Don't worry about being breathless unless it is extreme. Well done and keep it up.

in reply to

exactly auntymary walking will be much better than a car for breathing and keeping muscle from disappearing or turning into fat, people get fat when they stop exercise from breathless times- more breathless when fat it only gets worse if you stop exercise.

thank you. i have been trying to keep fit. just recently though with the very cold air i have been quite tight chested even when i get in to work. i will take this on board and keep it up now. its just that i have only been diagnosed since November and this is my first 'puffy' winter.

many thanks

to get higher rate mobility you have to be unable to walk 20 metres it used to be fifty but 20 is the new regulation for higher mobility i will be in same position if my car breaks down god forbid it to happen the new regs are austere to say the least if i walk 50 metres i need to stop and i dont miracuously get my second wind even with in halers many times thats me finished with a tight chest shallow breathing and fit for nothing which can leave me exhausted for the day are even the next day i do not have dla i am waiting for my appeal but i dont hold out any hope i have just finished my rehab course but they would not let me do the excersize part only the advise side of it which was good

Same experience for me, my Doctor said the same thing, severe discomfort after 20 meters. The regulation are getting much tighter.

Hi

Call the BLF Helpline - 03000 030 555 - and talk it through with one of the benefits advisers.

They'll help you understand the rules for DLA.

Thanks

To get dla mobility part at higher rate you must not be abl to walk 100 yards that was a few years ago but I think it is less now . Or you have to have someone with you to make sure you are safe to get from a to b . Type in dla mobility part and you will find it in there . If you can not get it and your car needs repairing find your tec collage were they teach macs macanichs as they will do it at a cheaper price than a garage or ask someone who might know how to do it for you as there is loads of good blokes who repair there cars on the side of the road or they garden who will do it cheap and you can take it back to them if not right most will tell you to get the part you need or they will take you if they say they will take you make sure someone go's with you who you know well Good luck
