I was up half the night with reflux, when I have this it usually happens for a few nights.

Can anyone give me any idea of what to eat today so as not to suffer reflux again tonight.

not sure about your eating, but are you not on medication from your doctor for reflux,my doctors gives me omeprazole

I had this problem. I had tests and was prescribed lansaprozole medication I tend to be a small eater which helps. Also to raise the back of the bed. Heavily spiced food, chocolate doesn't suit me. I cant eat oily stuff like fish and chips. Best to consult your GP - it is such a common problem.

I have tried various combinations and now have lansaprozole I have my bed raised and try to keep my food quite bland, but it still happens every now and then, once I have had it one night it seems to go on for a few nights then I am exhausted through lack of sleep.

Hi Pollyjj

Reflux is just horrible - have you spoken to your GP? They so have stronger medications that can help.

If you can raise the head of your bed so you are not lying flat can help to stop the acid rising.

Fizzy drinks of any sort can exacerbate acid as can tomatoes and food high in fat.

The following information from NHS Choices may be useful:

nhs.uk/Conditions/Gastroeso...

The following link has a list of foods to avoid and also keeping a diary to identify triggers:

I hope this helps.

Best Wishes

Jo

I'm on Lansaprozole too, when I remember to take it. If I feel any sort of stomach upset it prompts me to take the capsules, although most of the time I don't now. I have changed my eating habits since losing my job, no more fast guzzles and back to work, these days I eat a lot slower.

My own quick solution to reflux has often been a bowl of cornflakes, the milk has a calming effect but may not suit everyone. I have read about this causing more problems through lactose intolerance.

I wondered about having some porridge made with water.

Hi Pollyjj

Apparently easy to digest foods - yogurt, plain steamed fish, rice and porridge, the main thing is to eat smaller portions of food every 2 - 3 hours.

Jo

Hi Jan, I had a problem previously with that, and was put on Nexium,no problem since.I used to have an early tea,and just a cuppa and dry biscuits before bed, and that worked well for me.

Anyway, hope you lose the reflux, and retain your sense of humour!!

Do get checked out that you dont have a hernia.

A quick fix is a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in warm water.

I have tried bicarb and I now use peppermint drops in hot water.

I have had porridge and will have some more later.

Have you tried Domperidome (spelling)? taken before you eat, on prescription although you have to be careful what other medication you take with it.

Hi There

Reflux is not good, I try not to lend forward when bending down, keep you back straight and bend your knees, the way you should do it lol harder then you think. I take Lansaprozole daily and cannot be with out it. I try only to drink 3 cups of tea aday, some brands of fresh coffee really play it up, when it is really bad I have found a small glass milk ( I have to add milk shake liquid as I cannot drink milk otherwise) will easy it quicker, I also have Maalox Plus from GP. Do you find the same things set it off? I drink water most of the time straight from the tap, food with a high content of acid will not help either, with my humour Red Wine is better for you then White lol

Was o.k. last night just kept waking to see if I had reflux.

Is that right about the wine? :-)

I suffered with reflux (heartburn) since I was 18, sometimes I would sit bolt up right in bed and it was like I was spitting venom even to the point where to get rid of the reflux I would end up being sick to get rid of any excess acid, finally I asked if I could be sent to have a camera down my throat not a very nice experience I must add, results came back that I have a hiatus hernia and also Barrets sophicus (not spelt right I know) the nurse told me she was expecting a worse result, anyway she gave me a wonderful tablet called Omeprazol 20mg that was about 3 years ago and I think I've only had heartburn once since then, they worked for me I had to take one a day for a month at first but now I just take them as and when needed.
