I am a 68 year old male and was diagnosed with COPD a number of years ago. I have always been VERY overweight. The last couple of years I have been dieting and have lost almost seven stone and still have some to lose. My breathing has improved greatly and I can do things I had not done for years. The shortest walk would see me stopping several times for breath. Now I can manage it with out stopping at all. Also my Blue inhalors I was getting two a month and running out long before I was due for another one. Now I have only one a month and that is more than enough to see me through, in fact I now have some spares.

Congrats. How did you lose weight?
I joined Slimming World and its really made a difference to my life. Not only is it a diet its also a very healthy eating system my cholesterol has also gone down to 3.7 it had been as high as 6.0 and my doctored offered me medication, but I didnt really want that. so the diets been a great help all round
I lost three stones at Slimming World, I don't call it dieting. as it is healthy eating. I bought myself an electric soup maker and buy fresh casserole packs from the supermarket, put them in add stock and hey presto a bowl of goodness in 25 minutes. I need to be as fit as possible as I am my husbands carer and the Slimming World eating plan fits the bill.
Congratulations on your weight loss, keep it up.
Well done Bigman for losing so much weight and good luck with shifting the rest of the weight. I need to lose 7 stone. I have recently started at Weight Watchers and I am losing weight slowly. Starting Pulmonary Rehab in February should give my weight lose a boost.
Remember, nothing tastes as good as thin feels.
Wow! well done on your weight loss - thats sn amazing achievement!
I'm calorie counting too. Must admit I've tried slimming world and struggled with the concept of 'free' food and red and green days etc. it just seemed very complicated. That said a friend has lost 5.5stone on it do it works for her - just not me!
Coincidence that the BBC published this item today...
I wouldn't shake hands with Horace Fletcher !

fusion 8, hello love , jude here, like you I have spinal arthritis now, as well as a artificial hip, well for yrs , until my 50s I worked out , so when the gp said lose weght, in july after diagnoses , I thought "right" she is right , I,m fat..... size 18 5ft tall, so I went on a 1200 calories diet, by calory counting , as to the exercises well , I made them up from old knowledge of working out, ok, I lie flat on my back, bring knees up as far as poss, one leg at a time [I started doing 10 reps then over time worked it up to 60, then drop each leg one at a time [bent knee, ] same number , then spread legs as far as possible to side one at a time , [60 reps] thenall cycling?? do a cycling motion , one leg at a time, 60reps, then leg lifts , lift leg as far in the air as comfortable , 60 reps , then , arm lifts , raise each one at time to try to reach ceiling , ......I timed all this 60 reps takes 14 mins, I do it right after my main meal , [lunch] one way to strengthen the legs is to start slowly , by standing up from your chair no holding on, try 5 then build up top 20, fusion it,s damn hard , and yes it does hurt to begin with, use puffer first, but I,m down to a 14 dress size, I did have a bad time about 2 weeks ago, and stopped, new house paint fumes gp, [don,t need to say more , but back on it now, the recommended exercise time for folk without copd is 20 mins a day , so I recon , if we can do 14mins of activity a day , even lying down we are doing ok, but!!!!!! start slow and build up, love ever jude
