Newbie here. Hi all

I recently had a routine xray and was told there was "something" on there. I didn't hear anything else for a couple of weeks so I rang the hospital. They told me it had been downgraded to" routine". Now my Dr mentioned copd but I'm not yet diagnosed. I've kicked the fags for two weeks and I've never coughed so much!

Coughing like a Norton 500 or a Triumph Speed Twin you will be as smooth as them once you have been run in !!!!!

Hi Stu, the coughing is your body's attempt to clear the awful gunk left by the cigarettes. Don't worry, it will ease as your chest clears. The most important thing with COPD is stopping smoking - and you have already done that - well done! It really is a wake up call. If you are diagnosed at an early stage and have stopped smoking, your body will continue and you will have no worse health than anyone else. If you are at a later stage you can slow down the disease's progress by stopping smoking and keeping active - so get off the bike! Good luck to you.

If I can run as sweet as my old Suzuki I'll be happy! I'm hoping its nothing major. I shall be 42 in feb next year and my doctor says I'm a bit young for copd but I know people who got it in their 30's so I'm under no illusions!

Hi and welcome Stu very well done for kicking the fags..... :)

Hi Stu. Well done for kicking fags into touch. Its very tough giving up but keep on going...

I agree that its your lungs clearing which makes you cough. Its a good sign because your lungs will be cleaner for the future. It will stop in time.

Hi Stu. Well done on quitting. The coughing will stop and you will start to feel better for it. Along with a proper diagnosis and the correct meds, you will be on the right track. The severity of your COPD will help you learn what you can do to alleviate it.

Hi Stu, that's good news you have succeeded in giving up smoking. It's early days but in most cases the cough dose get better with time, however there are drugs to help if it persist's and is troublesome. Remain optimistic and I'm sure you'll start to feel better soon, Good Luck
