Hi Mamie, what a horrible time you have been having. It would be hard adapting to seeing with one eye,Pity the consultant was not very empathatic.

Sorry, I have no answer to your question, make sure you are satisfied with there answers, dont be rushed!!

Hope you have a peaceful xmas, and the New Year brings you some good health,

Hi mamie, so sorry to hear about your sight loss. It is hard to say whether your copd meds would affect this but you should check this out as soon as possible. I am surprised that the consultant didn't ask what meds you are taking really. You don't say what copd regime you are on, but assuming it is the usual Spiriva / Symbicort / Seretide / Prednisone, these can have effects on the eye with long term use - most commonly blurred vision. Cataracts can be a problem with long term use of Seretide, Symbicort or Prednisone. Prednisone can also contribute to Glaucoma. The one I would particularly ask for clarification on in your situation is the listed Seretide / Symbicort 'rare' side effect of 'increased eye pressure', as I would imagine that could be a problem you really wouldn't want. I would also query whether that may have contributed to the macular edema - I find the listing of 'increased eye pressure' a bit too vague for my liking.

You don't say whether you have Diabetes - as this seems to be the most common cause of macular edema - along with age related macular degeneration. Whatever the cause in your case, I hope you are able to get some clear professional guidance on your medication and have one less thing to worry about.

Do let us know how you get on, Px

There have been reports with people using a nebulizer, I've heard other's say their Consultant and GP have told them to close their eyes when taking a treatment as the drugs can affect the eyes if it comes into contact with them. I think this applies to those using a spacer with the nose mouth mask attachment.

Check in with your optician about this also. I hope the problem can be rectified.

Take good care.

Hi Mamie4

I had my left eye removed in march 2007 due to cancer showing up on a diabetic eye test.Your doctor is right to a point you do get used to it but its extremely frustrating at times but I just thank god I'm alive I find the copd more of a problem than the loss of my eye but with the correct help hope this gets sorted I'm waiting for hospital appointments so fingers crossed.

You take care

I had cataracts on both eyes removed before I was sixty, which the consultant blamed on the long term use of steroids. I've now got glaucoma which they are struggling to control with drops and I need an op on my right eye which I really don't fancy. I've been on seretide for 5 years and becotide before that, and regular prednisilone use for chest infections.. Very few drugs come without side effects
