Thank you, an interesting article, but a habit I thankfully have never ever wanted to entertain. Seeing my beloved grandfather die of lung cancer was enough of deterrent to me, plus I think it was helpful that I was brought up in a non smoking household. Though oddly whilst I hate cigarette smoke, I love the smell of a good quality tobacco, but that is probably more the association with my grandfather who smoked a pipe.

I think it is interesting how benign smoking was thought to be! The idea that lung cancer was so rare the medical students were not expected to see another case for a very long time.

It just goes to show how something thought to be so benign has caused so many problems.

Not just benign Jo but actually beneficial. My friend's husband died (in his early thirties) and she was advised by her GP to take up smoking as a way of dealing with her grief. And this was only 20 years ago!

Mmm I wonder what buck duke died of???
