What is the difference between Ventolin and Bricanyl.

Many years ago I used to have Ventolin but it made me shake badly so the doc changed it to Bricanyl.

Hi, there are both relievers and the difference is the active ingredient:

Bricanyl------------- Terbutaline

Ventolin------------ Salbutamol

polly I used Bricanyl for many years because it didn't give me the "shakes" like Ventolin did

but, now I am older I use Ventolin because it opens my airways better, also I do not get shaky with it any more. for me Ventolin seems more effective of the two.

Hi Polly

Ventolin has always given me the 'dithers' and so I use Bricanyl in both inhaler form and also in my nebuliser before physio. It can also make me a bit shakey, but to a much lesser extent.

Wish you well

I'm just experiencing the same thing after doctor recommended I try changing from bricanyl to ventolin. I will go back to bricanyl for my sanity sake. Can't handle all the ventolin side effects.....yuk!!!

I use Brycanol in my nebulisor as Ventolin was too strong & had me gasping for breath. I still only use Nebs if I really need to out of fear. I use Ventolin inhalers which I am assured thanks to this site give most people shakes so not too much to worry about. Brycanol is a milder form of Ventolin I believe.

Bricanyl is not a milder form of ventolin. This is totally misleading! They both work similarly, but also differently and Bricanyl lasts longer in the body than ventolin which only lasts 4 hrs. Ventolin is supposed to work quicker but causes palpitations in many which doesn't mean it's stronger. I tried Ventolin over the last few days after a severe bout of asthma which lasted 2 weeks and I had to have Dr home visit. Home visit Dr suggested I try ventolin, but will go back to Bricanyl because I had to use as much BD - and more often (of Asmol-Ventolin) because of the differences. As well as feeling a total nervous wreck today after it all.

.salamol very quick good action inhaler, spray straight to the lungs, preventer. The larger ventilin inhaler was useless for me,land on my tonsils..useless .
