Just like to say a great big THANK YOU to the mention of the Warm Home Discount scheme - I've just received a letter back form SWALEC to say I am entitled to it - wow £130.00 off our leccy bill Christmas is coming twice this year

To anyone who hasn't yet applied give it a go, you don't know until you try.

I'm waiting to hear from npower, their warm home helpline said 'no' but I've written to them anyway.

From what I remember, the rebate is paid in March?

Yes letter states payment will be made to my account 31st March 2013. It will certainly lighten the load after the forthcoming Christmas spending.

I'm another lucky recipient of the WHDS, thanks to this site; I didn't even know it existed before I saw it mentioned here

My dad tried this, he is with swalec too. But as he has attendance allowance they said he cant have it. Any other benefit is ok but not that!

do you have to be on benefits for this scheme? not heard of it, or is there an age on it

Jacky go to your suppliers web site and type in warm home discount. Suppliers vary, but you may get it if you have a long term illness and or low income or pension credit etc. Each supplier is different so check it out. I got it last year from scottish power after reading about it here, then this year they sent me a letter telling me to apply again. Good luck.

I checked out Npower but the scheme is closed and you have to be on certain benefits. I've had bronchiectasis all my life but do not qualify. Never mind can't win em all

This is fantastic news for everyone who will receives

this money, the money will just come staright off your winter electricity bill around March/April time. There are some rumblings on the internet saying this winter will be a cold one! Also look at the BLF information about keeping warm in the winter.

It is a real problem though for those who are in need but who don't qualify - lets hope the broader scheme can include more people!

I must apply for this, I'm on DLA and ESA (support group) so fingers crossed. The heating is on a lot more now as I'm not able to work so this could be a great help. Thanks!!!!!!
