Give hope, become a Research Investor.

In conjunction with World IPF Week, we are asking our most valuable supporters like you to become Research Investors and help us fund vital research that can change the lives of people living with lung disease today and for future generations.

Scientific research can take years of painstaking work before it provides answers. That means scientists rely on solid, dependable funding from us. By giving just £5 a month you can be a part of a select group of supporters who are making a vital, practical contribution to world-class research. But what’s most important, you can be part of research that is having practical benefits for many brave people living with lung disease today.

Become a Research Investor today – it’s the next best thing to rolling your sleeves up and lending a hand in the lab! To make your contribution today, click here: blf.org.uk/ResearchInvestor

All the best

Can you guarantee us that the £5 per month will be going specifically to IPF research?

I stopped giving to a cancer research organisation when I found out that 7p of every pound donated went to research - the rest being spent on wages and the expenses of the charity concerned.

Hi Parvati

In answer to your query above, the research investors programme raises much needed money exclusively for research into a number of lung conditions of which IPF is one. The BLF carefully considers every research project to ensure it is of a certain standard and that the money is directed where the need is greatest where possible. We know that more research needs to be done in IPF and are working towards making this a strategic priority for us.

I hope that helps

Hi Dom

Thank you for getting back to me on that, I appreciate that you took the time to find out. I had initially assumed that the appeal was for IPF in particular, in which case I would have dug into my dwindling resources and become a regular contributor as I am well aware of IPF's status as an 'orphan' disease. I don't have IPF myself - I have COPD and Alpha1 anti trypsin deficiency. I do contribute to various individual fund raising activities - walks, climbs etc. as and when I can afford to, but have to think carefully before committing to a regular monthly outgoing. Had the money been going to a specific IPF project I would have gladly 'gone the extra mile' for it as I realise that IPF is pretty much where COPD was ten or twenty years ago. As things stand though I will decline becoming a 'research investor', though I continue to be a BLF member and contribute financially on an ad hoc basis. Parvati.

What is IPF?
