Transportable Oxygen, a heads up.

I am new to this world of types of home oxygen systems and presently have a liquid oxygen dewar which dispenses it into portable flasks as needed. These don't last very long on continuous flow (4 lpm) and I was told there is no point filling up more than one spare as they leak overnight. This of course poses a problem if the need to go away for more than a day arises.

My partner's mother died last week so we need to go to the funeral next Wednesday, 100 miles away and stay on for a time to wind up her affairs. Dolby Vivisol were very helpful and would have delivered a dewar to her house but we have met with crass unhelpfulness at that end in that nobody will commit to be in receive it the day before the funeral. Also there isn't suitable accommodation we can use as other relatives have got in first, we will stay at a B&B until they bugger off.

So, I began looking round for a portable concentrator and this can be hired at a price of around £300 a week (gah!). Then I rang the Respiratory Nurse to ask her what she could recommend and she is arranging delivery of a "Transportable Converter" from Dolby which I can use for two weeks and costs nothing! What a relief. I had begun to think I couldn't go.

I was very down at the beginning of this whole oxygen business as I didn't know what was actually available for being away for a length of time, other than a pre-arranged dewar at a specific holiday address which is better than nothing but still limiting.

I hope to be able to get a portable converter in the future as it will set me free. Expensive but one firm I spoke to have reduced their prices.

How many portable flasks were you given with your liquid oxygen so that you can go away on holidays, same as you a potable concentrator is my usual for traveling with where nothing is as good as just being able to breathe air it is finding the system that meets your needs with each way of delivering oxygen having it's own advantages. Finding the best oxygen delivery for you and how you want to live can take time and patience when consulting your oxygen supplier.
