I have to see the nurse again on Thursday and thought I might ask about this and if there is a course locally to me although not sure I can have the time off work ,but from all the comments from everyone on here that has been on this course it sounds as though it does work wonders

Gives you confidence and shows you your limits, which is all good :)

I agree with you Val but do you have problems finding the incentive and energy to do the excercises every day at home.

You don't happen to be going to the pul rehab in Liverpool do you Fantasy, it sounds like you are describing the one I go to. It's very strange to find yourself looking forward to what is, ostensibly, a hospital appointment.

I couldn't make it last week, I was not up to it with all the humidity at the time; so at just over a week since my last visit to pul rehab my breathing is awful in a way I can't recall ever feeling. It's as though my chest is heavy and can't get enough breath down. This has been since Monday. The only thing I can think of is that all the good that I'd gained from the exercises has worn off, which makes sense I suppose.

And Polly, the exercises don't have to be done every day, in fact it was recommended to me that at least 1 day off between workouts was good. The day after my very first session I was so knackered and weary, it took me three days to get back on track, and just as I was getting back to normal, it was pul rehab day again. "Oh no", I cried, "not again". But each week I was affected less and less and I've only just noticed this last week, just how much I had benefitted, my breathing was so much better, although I still have a long way to go. It's taken this relapse to bring it home to me.

Has anyone else experienced a worsening of their breathing for one day after each session at rehab, each week getting less and less severe? Apparently not everyone reacts this way. One of the coaches explained it as the equivalent of muscles aching after a workout ie. the lungs have been given such exercise and they 'ache' afterwards.

Hi dolly.

No I go to pr in Romford, and it's not at the hosp.its in the leisure centre, which is far nicer..

I'm sorry to hear that your breathing has got so bad after missing your pr for just a week.

Maybe talk to your respiratory nurse who does the pr.i know the humidity and the heat don't help us cope too well, but I would have a quiet word with them.

Take care

Pleased to hear your enjoying it. Can`t wait for mine to start in October.

Linda.

I've been going to my second course of PR for about a month now and am finding it very good. I certainly know a lot more than when I started. And doing the exercises.....

That's great! Don't forget to ask what your options are for continuing exercising after the course finishes.

Use the BLF postcode search to see if there's a specialist respiratory instructor in your area, they are qualified to provide maintenance exercise to people finishing rehab:
