i used to have a Dr that believed in alternative medicines but i always thought it was mumbo jumbo - when i coughed really bad he prescribed me JUT-U-SIN.R and it was brilliant, worked a treat.

i know you can buy it over the counter in some pharmacies but it is very expensive.

heres a link where you can buy it but please see your Dr first to check hubby can take it, if your lucky he may even prescribe it

Oh and now i don't think its mumbo jumbo :)

You weren't joking when you typed "very expensive" !! Personally I would have used the term "extortionate" :) :)

I too have a constant tickly cough, but find a sip of tepid water helps most of the time.

Dad has IPF and coughs alot, it's part of it I'm afraid. He has mucodyne syrup as opposed to the tablets, he says he finds it better and he has codeine linctus to take the edge off the pain when coughing. Sometimes though he can have it really bad and is hurting and there is nothing to help. Its the lungs trying to get rid of the excess mucus and when he finally does bring some up that does help but not always. Warm drinks are supposed to help to break down the thickness of the mucus and dad finds if he goes out and the wind catches his breath that can trigger a coughing bout so maybe a scarf to cover up.

my husband has ipf and emphysema so he's greedy and has 2 coughs, sometimes a very yukky productive cough, and other times a dry very annoying cough, it goes with the illness am afraid and he was told by consultant to take codeine syrup but it didnt make much difference. sometimes a drink of cider vinegar, honey and hot water will help with the peff, can't harm anyway. An occasional night in another bedroom usually does the trick for me .

hi grahamsgirl

i have IPF and unfortunately have been coughing for the best part of a year, i was prescribed co-codomol 500/30 mg not too long ago and they have really helped. They consist of 500mg of paracetamol and 30mg of codeine which acts as a cough suppressant and painkiller all in one. I am on a high dose of these tablets 8 a day but im sure your husbands GP will be able to advise to give him (and you) some relief from the coughing

What is IPF.

Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and is usually more aggressive and harder to control than COPD.

Hope that helps a little

Hi grahamesgirl, I have a cough most of the time and find the pain relief for my arthritis helps lessen the cough. It is tramadol which I understand has a small amount of codeine in it, so it would appear cough suppressents do help. Also I have found over the counter cold remedies sometimes relieve the cough and breathing difficulties.Herbal tea and honey also helps.Hope some of the suggestions help your husband even if only for lessening of the symptoms as constant cough is wearing for you and him .

Hi I have a very irritating cough. I make sure i take all my medications and If coughs bad I take extra salbulomel inhaler. I also buy jakemans cough sweets. They good. Very cheap can get them at any chemists (superdrug cheaper 59p). outside its important to breathe through nose if you can and out through mouth. I find in cold wind a scarf over my nose and mouth is essential. Hope this helps. x
