Hi Krazylady,

I was having horrendous indigestion and heartburn as well as constantly feeling sickly. I've been prescribed Omeprazole, which I take twice a day. Unfortunately it's another medication though!

Take them tablets but they make fart and feel sick sometimes better than indegestion though

Hi krazylady, its not good to let this go untreated. I know you want to avoid medication but doing so could cause you more problems. Best to ask your doc who will likely ask you a series of questions to determine the medication, when its happening etc.

Or you could just get some gaviscon or rennie to see if that helps first, or check with pharmacist who may well know of a more natural aid.

You might find this article of interest also:

I had this problem for a while after being on daily asprin heart dose, it also caused me a lot of other problems. Ok when I stopped the asprin after discussions with my GP.

If you do find anything more natural that works do share so we can all make a note for future reference :)

thank you both -

only ever had this once before ( how lucky am i - shouldn't moan really) I had a really serious exacerbation in May and got it then - but that's it.

Feeling really tired and got this horrible indigestion so hoping i am not about to have another bad one!!!!

will get my other half to get some rennie or something to try to ease it for now.

thanks again :)

I find Gaviscon liquid helps Val x

Hi Krazylady - if it's a one off or rare occurrence then OTC as suggested by Zoee should be enough. If however, you find it an ongoing situation, then you need to tell your GP and get some Omneprazole as you probably have GERD. No one is certain why so many of us get this, though it is possible that the same inhaler ingredients that relax our airways also relax the smooth muscle surrounding the lower esophageal sphincter (entrance to the tum). Another theory is that it is to do with our breathing etc. No one really knows for certain except that we do suffer from it. The reason you must not 'brave it out', is because uncontrolled over time it may cause increased exacerbations or damage to the upper airways with the acids and gases coming up. If you google 'GERD and COPD' or similar, you will find plenty of articles on it. In the meantime, hope it is a one off for you, P.

Spot on Parvati , Reflux and COPD seem to go hand in hand , i didn't think i suffered from reflux until i had an exploration into narrowed swallow and the surgeon said i had reflux during op and have since found it very common in other COPD patients . As you say it can damage the lungs further if left untreated , i take NEXIUM ( esomeprazole ) which sounds very similar to your suggestion , again , prescription drug i am afraid xx hope you don't need it Krazylady but please consider it in case you get worse xxx.

Thank you - felt a bit daft posting this but glad i did now -

Hi, sorry to comment but I terrible acid and was being sick for hours every day, my life was terrible. It was suggested I had a fundoplication operation, so I had one. Now I have no acid at all but I can't swallow well and my food intake is limited to anything mashed or puréed, drinking is sipping only. I get no acid but my goodness I have trouble now!

What I'm getting at is to see your GP or RNS to get help before you get hernias etc.

I wish you well

Mike

thanks mike

value your imput very much.

Krazy I simply take a third of a teaspoonful of bicarbonate of soda in aglass of water and it helps things almost immediately. Failing that wet your finger and stick it in the tub of bicarb then suck your finger , works a treat .

I'm a believer of bicarbonate of soda too. I used to get a lot of acid reflux when I used to drink alcohol ( I gave it up about 10 years ago ) and used it then. Bicarb works instantly. It doesn't taste very nice though. :)

I suffered with reflux at night time mostly it was horrendous, have had lots of different combinations of meds which did not work too well.

A friend suggested I buy some blocks for under the legs at the head end of my bed, they raise the bed by 5" and it has been wonderful.

If i have had something for my evening meal that I think might give me a problem I take 2 desert spoonfulls of Gaviscon before I go to bed and all is well, I havn't had a bad night since.
