Volunteer, Chris Knighton, receives award in Queen's Birthday Honours

I wanted to share the BLF's excitement at the news this weekend that volunteer Mrs Chris Knighton has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours 2012. Chris's husband, Mick, died from the asbestos related cancer mesothelioma in 2001 which prompted Chris to start fundraising under the British Lung Foundation to fund a meothelioma research project. She established the Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund in 2002 initially to raised £100,000. Last year the total raised passed the £1 million mark. Not only have several research projects received funding through the BLF's Research Programme but sufficient money has been raised to fund a Mesothelioma Biobank (tissue bank) to provide samples for research in the future.
