I know that if you have a temperature with a chest infection you need to be checked for pneumonia etc but what about if its lower ? Just wondered what some of your temps are ? nurse is coming later today so i will ask her as well from Sam

Hi Sam

Yes do talk to the nurse about this. It may be nothing to worry about, but 'better safe than sorry'. Poor blood circulation due to low oxygen levels within the body can cause the body temperature of COPD patients to decrease. If this occurs, you may notice that the patient's hands or feet are cold to the touch. As your monitoring equipment is new to you, make sure the nurse goes over everything with you and get answers to any questions you have. Presumably, as temperature is included in the monitoring system, it is considered an important part in monitoring your Dad's / Husband's health. Do let us know how things go, best wishes, Parvati.

Hello Sam29 Can only add a little to this from my local nurse who takes my temperature as a sign of infection raising it up.

Did think they were putting me down first time they put it in my ear was waiting for something under my tongue.

Kind Regards Ethel

Good advice from Pavarti.

I think the device is one of the Telehealth systems.

Hope you are feeling more confident about things after the nurse's visit Sam.

Let us know how you get on.

Well she came round his temp was 35.7 ,she seemed to think it might be the machine or something ?She said my dad still has the infection and has told him to do a sputum sample tmw at the hospital ,when he sees his consultant. She also thinks the pain is possibly his kidneys, so hopefully we will be able to get him a scan tmw as this pain is not right .He is being weaned off his steroids as well now as they have not helped. He is covered in big blood spots and his skin is so thin so im g;ad hes coming off them .Hoping everything gets addressed at the hospital tmw and we dont get fobbed off ..

Thanks for updating us Sam. I'm glad that you got some good input from the nurse and that further investigations concerning your Dad's health are going to be forthcoming.

Those steroids play havoc with the body so its good news he is being weaned off them, also good news a sputum analysis will be done.

You probably know this, but drinking plenty of water may help his kidneys to feel happier and also help him to get rid of some of the toxins that the body may have accumulated over the past months.

If it is kidney pain your Dad is experiencing drinking cranberry juice may also be a help.

Do communicate your concerns tomorrow if you feel you are being fobbed off.

Hoping you get a good visit and your Dad will be feeling much better real soon.

Take good care Tru x

Have to say Sam, that when I have had my major exacerbations I was in no fit state to notice what my temperature was and I cannot remember being told I had one. As I had a chest infection on both occasions am assuming I was running a temperature, so am afraid I cannot help you on this one Sam.

Glad to hear your Dad is getting help

Thanks everyone :) thanks stitch :)

I am meeting him and my mum at the hospital with a wheelchair for my dad ,i said to him he doesnt have to use one,but for the first time ever he said yes get me one :(

Would patient transport help with the hospital trip to save stress for your mum and dad getting to the hospital. They can take him from the house in a wheelchair not make him any worse by struggling. Good luck with getting answers you are a trooper
