That is a lovely old bus Dave and in great condition. Do you know what the occasion for it being there was?

It reminded me of the old buses that were used on Malta for many years until they could no longer get replacement parts to keep them on the road which was a pity.

The buses on Malta were amazing Carole. We travelled on them some years back. Xxx

We did too Carole. Saw the whole island for pennies, it really was a memorable holiday. February 1996.

We went in 1997/98. It was March and we were near Valletta in Hotel Fortuna. Very nice too. Xxx💚

Valletta was stunning, one of those cities that lingers in the memory.

I remember those Carole, I often wondered if they survived. I escaped often to Malta in the 70s when we lived in Libya. My tiny son only wanted to see the buses, they were just fabulous 🙂

A friend visited Malta, can't remember just when but within the last 10 years. He said that all the buses were modern because of the spare parts problem and that the island didn't seem quite the same.

Aww the Maltese buses! Someone went to pull the bell string and the whole thing fell off in his hand! Was so funny 🤣 I think they were first green and then painted yellow (of vice versa ) Good memories those!

We only had a week there but caught a bus to a different place on the island each day. It was a great cheap way to sight see.

It reminds me a bit of my junior school coach too. We had a driver called Frank and he’d drive us in our coach all over the place!

It’s a great photo! Thanks! It’s made me smile and brought me nice memories!

In the late 70s hired a family car in Malta, an old Datsun, drove int Valletta and the passenger door fell off. The then prime minister, Mintoff, I thinks was his name, wouldn’t import new cars.

A beautiful bus. It brings back fond memories of the county of my birth.

That's fabulous and they don' t make them like they used to that's for sure. I can't believe it's still a working bus, but goes to show just how well made they used to be. Shame we have lost that x

Lovely picture , your post brought back a few memories for members. Our buses were all that colour back in the day as they say. One like that is in the motor museum in town . But we also have a couple of double deckers been refurbished and put back on the road, they were built to last . Thank you for the post & picture.

My first husband, Bob, was a mechanic at Whitehaven bus station in the mid seventies. One of the buses he looked after was similar to that, and had appeared in a film starring Kenneth Moore - I believe The 39 Steps - made in the 1950s. It was lovely to ride in it when it turned up on the route to town via Distington, Moresby and Pica.
