Flu Jab

Anyone had side effects from the flu jab? I had mine on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning had a sore arm but by mid morning felt awful. Dizzy and nauseous whilst out shopping and had to find a chair to sit while my husband brought car to the door. By the afternoon shivers, temperature and went to bed feeling so cold. A bit better today although my arm is quite painful and just feel a bit off colour! Hopefully be OK by tomorrow - the nurse did say I could feel fluey for a couple of days. Never had this reaction before.

Sorry you've had such a bad reaction. I'm one of the lucky ones. My arm became very painful during the afternoon and evening, but was more or less back to normal the next day. Now waiting to see what the covid jab brings.

Yes waiting to hear too about the Covid booster, just glad I didn't have them both together! Glad you've had your flu jab and all went OK. Keep well and safe.

I had a bad reaction years ago after the flu jab and I was like you for a few days. I was so unwell and caught every bug going for nearly a year, my gp dismissed this being the cause but I have never had the jab since. I do hope that you now feel better, just rest up and take it easy x

Thank you Izb1 - it's the first time I've had any real reaction to it. I feel much better today just a 48 hour thing. Keep well and safe.

I've had a few flu jabs in the past and not had much in the way of side effects. This year was the first time that I suffered for ages after the jab. Not only did my arm hurt for 3-4 days, I felt awful too. I'm still not back on my feet properly after 10 days, I'm still feeling pretty grotty. I hope you feel better soon xx

I'm so sorry to hear that SpireAnt, I have never had an effect like this before, just a sore arm but I do feel much better today, thank you. I do really hope you feel better very soon. Keep well and safe.

I always take an antihistamine when I have my flu jab. I took one a day for three days and apart from a little redness down my arm I was ok. If I don’t take them my arm swells up and is really painful.

Thank you Mavary, what a good idea, I have never thought of that. This is the first time I've had such a reaction but I will definitely try antihistamines next year. Very good idea. Keep safe and well.

My only reaction (thus far) is a painful arm and shoulder. However, a neighbour here had a similar reaction to what you’ve described. I hope you feel better soon.

I had my flu jab last week. Last year my arm had a reddened and inflamed area around where I got the shot the size of a large egg!! This year I have been taking Claritin for my allergies and did not experience the reaction around the injection site. I did however experience chills and fatigue that evening which was gone in the morning. I live in the US and those over 65 receive a higher dose of the flu shot. Is that the same in the UK?

Yes Solily taking an antihistamine does sound a good idea and I'll definitely try it next year. In the UK us oldies (I'm 73) do get a different dose to the youngsters amongst us. I'm glad your chills and fatigue have now gone and hope you're fully fit. I feel much better today so it must be just a 48 hour thing as the nurse described. Keep safe and well.
