Question

I received a call from the hospital this afternoon which was confusing . I was at hospital because I thought I had broken my shin bone obviously it wasn't but a lump which I've had for some years which is attached to the shin bone was the problem I had an x-ray and a thin pin biopsy taken , today the doctor said he wants to see me 9am Monday morning the results show the growth is begin what ever that means hopefully good because he said it was nothing to worry about but he said my white blood cell count was high . My question is is this something to be concerned about? The Language barrier is obviously a problem so I will be taking my friend to translate for me . But all the Same I have a very uneasy feeling about this . Any advise is welcomed

High white blood cell count could mean your body is fighting an infection. It seems the doctor was trying to say benign so that’s good. Wishing you well for Monday. Xxxx

Yes high wbc is usually fighting infection. Glad lump was benign, not cancerous. Dont be too concerned

If the lump is benign then that is good news. Your raised white cell count may be nothing to do with your leg but may be indicative of an infection somewhere.It's good that you are going to take a friend with you next time so that you can have a good conversation with the doctor and get all your questions answered. Write a list before you go to make sure you cover everything on your mind.

Thanks I will do like I said the doctor called me and all be it broken English I could understand most of what he was saying it just left me confused about white blood cells high needing to see me so quickly and this begnini business, medical words confuse me 🤣🤣

I had a appointment at hearing dept in Chester and the doctor was greek . His English was perfect but his accent gave him away.. He came from Athens. I have this compulsion to try out my holiday greek whenever I hear the accent and have to control it especially when overhearing a conversation in greek in hotel lift once. English hotel .

Always a mistake 😂 we had an Italian couple in the apartment at the rear of our home so I used all the Italian I knew and of course the woman kept on rabbiting away in Italian thinking I knew what she was saying 😂😂😂

Embarrassing isn't it? Just b spent half an hour with some small children 4-6 yrs and they have their own language, of course. They think you're really senile when you don't know the words! Wait till they are teenagers.

Benign means its non cancerous.

High white blood cell count, also known as leukocytosis, can indicate a range of conditions including infections, inflammation, bodily injury and immune system disorders.

You body is dealing with a lot at this time so a high white blood cell count would be expected I would think.

I know it may sound daft, and I'm sure there's a reason you don't but have you tried a translator app or similar on your phone for appointments?

You can get little gadgets that translate too. Or even maybe a dictophone or record on your phone then figure out how to translate after appointment?

Then you've got it then. You may have to sign a disclaimer or for the doctor to consent to you recording first.

Just an idea. It's hard enough understanding ascents sometimes let alone language barriers! Good luck for mon though

Cheers , I'm ok when my translator is with me but if he's at work it's a problem but I'm lucky he always makes sure that the appointments coincide with his Time off 👍👍👍

Th high white blood cell count (WBC) could well be as a result of inflammation caused by the recent polluted air you have had to suffer. PM 2.5 is really nasty in this respect.

They always use big words they know you can't understand to throw you 😂 most of the time the doctors I've seen here are very direct but some tend to pussy foot around 😂👍

The Oncology Clinic letters to my GP contain things that are not discussed during the hospital appointment, which is usually twice a year, So I either have to wait 6 months or work it out for myself, which I usually do as I cannot contain my curiosity. I can count how many times I have seen my GP in the last four years easily on one hand.

I Got sick of constantly asking my UK doctor to explain in terms I could understand , here they usually do that without being asked but this time was different , I got the feeling he was holding something back , just had a strange feeling . I guess you know what I mean about that . We will see on Monday if it's yet again something to worry about or not .

Well my Aussie Greek friend doesn't pull any punches he'll get to the bottom of it . A lump I've had for a few years not a day of pain From it causing me all this , I'm not using the damn crutches either they get in my way I hobble about my own way 🤣🤣

The benign lump can be safely cut out to remove it. If it was malignant however, it would not be so straight forward, but it is not malignant so happy days.
