Oh, how awful and sad. The thyme and the dryness of the hills makes it so easy to start, so hard to stop.

in reply to Ergendl

The olive trees are the worst they burn hotter and longer and difficult to control

Ergendl profile image
Ergendl in reply to

I forgot about all those olive groves. Devastating for the farmers to lose those.

in reply to Ergendl

Surprisingly they grow back quickly and more strong . But they burn hotter than anything and for longer and their everywhere here I'm looking at about a dozen right now πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

It must be so difficult to stay that alert for so much of the time. I hope that you get some relaxation as the day goes on. Grace

in reply to Walkwalkwalk

When you know that the possibility of the fire reaching you staying alert is definitely not a problem πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ the tiredness now well that's different I could sleep the clock round if it wasn't so hot and I wouldn't complain if it was just 32 degrees πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

sandravale profile image

Stay safe. DH is moaning here (in Malta) how hot it is. Currently 32C with a forecast high of 38C. Hot but not like Greece. Sitting down with a cold drink in the air conditioning watching Olympics

Sounds exactly like Hell! You poor thing :( I do hope they manage to put the fires out once and for all. Take care xx

in reply to leo60

Helicopters are still flying around dropping water so their definitely making sure it's out πŸ‘πŸ‘

leo60 profile image
leo60 in reply to

That's great Davey, Perhaps you could get them to do a drop on you? That would cool you down! 😘😘 Seriously though, I hope you manage to get respite from the heat and manage some rest, take care xx

in reply to leo60

I was waving them to drop some on me but guess their busy , just changed my stepfather settled him down with his lunch and a war film so going to have half an hour chill out if possible 🀣🀣

Stay safe and well. A friend with young children, during fires in Australia, hung wet towels in front of the air conditioning and windows to absorb any smoke that wafted in. xx

in reply to Lupino

No Aircon thankfully got the shutters down to try and cool down the rooms can't smell the smoke until you get outside so I double mask something I don't like doing breathing tight at best of times

Let's hope tomorrow brings you some relief. Take care 🌧 wishing you some rain

in reply to Suzie42

The rain would be lovely but I guess it wouldn't go down well with the tourists 🀣🀣🀣 or as their now called by a lot of the locals the covid carriers . 🀣🀣

Suzie42 profile image
Suzie42 in reply to

I hope i won't be called that if i manage to come out πŸ˜„

in reply to Suzie42

No , the old people in the villages are the ones who call tourists that but yet again they were against the islands opening up for tourists or each other , it's nothing personal it scares the hell out of them , looking at it from there prospective before we opened up the largest amount of cases were eight in one week now we're open 104 cases in a day so you can see the logic ..πŸ˜΅πŸ˜΅πŸ‘

Suzie42 profile image
Suzie42 in reply to

Yes I totally understand them. I would be the same 😊

in reply to Suzie42

It's confusing for them , they understand that the island needs tourism but what they don't want are the ignorant law breakers πŸ˜”πŸ₯Ί

Suzie42 in reply to

Good. Just been watching Rhodes on Sky news. They say fires under control now. Fingers crossed it stays like that

in reply to Suzie42

How absolutely horrifying a situation to find yourself Davey. We were all sweltering in the uncomfortable heat last week in the UK but nothing like you are experiencing in Rhodes and Turkey. I can only join in with the others on here and hope things improve for you aΔΊl as soon as possible. My thoughts are with you. RR

in reply to RoadRunner44

I was just watching a program on Greek TV a news report and they had their top climatologist saying within possibly twenty years Greece could be like the African planes , temperature here is climbing quickly each year getting hotter than the last one ,, fires are getting more frequent and not enough is being done about it globally . The guy had a point . I also found out that the animal center was burnt out last night during the fire some animals were saved but majority were lost . A sad day πŸ˜ͺπŸ˜ͺπŸ˜ͺ

RoadRunner44 profile image
RoadRunner44 in reply to

Oh dear, when will the powers that be accept its due to global warming and start finding ways to combat it? Its happening now!, Look at Brazil, Australia and the fires there. Flooding in india and other parts of the world. Its frightening! Please keep us posted to know how things are.

Xx

in reply to RoadRunner44

It's ridiculous really because the people who have the power to change the situation are only concerned with money , look at it another way politicians globally have bunkers and we'll protected what's Jo bloggs from down the road got nothing , people like Elon musk Richard Branson all have money so they will be ok . But we can't do anything about it . No one listens to us πŸ˜΅πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

RoadRunner44 profile image
RoadRunner44 in reply to

Sadly, you are right Davey. It is a global dilemma and each country has to take responsibility for their actions and come together to find solutions. Is this the sort of legacy we leave for future generations? We are going through difficult times all over the world and the future is bleak. Please keep us posted and keep safe.RR.

in reply to RoadRunner44

Will do , well a further 81 cases today not good news for a small island who before opening up to tourists the highest amount of cases were eight in a week not a day . Well I'm on my 12th litre of water today making sure I keep hydrated or just a mini lake 🀣🀣🀣 Keep your chin up have a lovely day and always keep safe πŸ‘

Marionmarion profile image
Marionmarion in reply to RoadRunner44

There might not be future generations. We are having multiple apocalypse already. And all man-made.

in reply to Marionmarion

Well Nostradamus was right so far . Looking at the big picture floods several of earthquakes several of forest fires plenty of pandemic well plenty of water shortages plenty of the list goes on and most caused by man . πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ Totally agree

in reply to Patk1
