The view from my second home

At 3.30am got whipped into hospital after collapsing on my way to the loo , I woke up looking at a lovely view of the sea . Wondering what and where I was the doctor explained I had been rushed in unconscious and going purple . I'm now back home and feeling drained and tired but ok , apparently my oxygen levels dropped off the chart and the seizures are being caused by lesions on the brain through constant attacks of Oxygen depravation . Now got to go every where with my oxygen tank just incase . Having a coffee then going to try and get a nap .

Not a pleasant experience Davey but so lucky you were found and given prompt treatment. Hopefully the use of oxygen will prevent further episodes. Is your oxygen use regularly monitored? I know nothing of how that side of things works in Greece. I was surprised to learn that your seizures are due to brain lesions caused by oxygen deprivation if you have previously been prescribed oxygen. I hope that you don't have any more life threatening episodes.

in reply to CDPO16

As I had pointed out today it's going to be an episode like this that will be my last . And unlike the UK hardly anything gets monitored

in reply to CDPO16

It's very worrying , I mean last year I was having a big problem with blacking out averaging between fifteen to twenty a day sometimes more but I was actually unconscious for an hour at a time . The pulmonologist was trying different medication to try and get things under control . That's when the damage was caused . Being without any medication for three years was the main cause of the whole kit and kabudal . I won't lie and say I'm not scared because I am but I'm trying to deal with it the best way I can .

Take care and stay safe 👍👍

CDPO16 profile image
CDPO16 in reply to

Have you got an oximeter to monitor your blood oxygen levels?

in reply to CDPO16

If I want one I have to buy one and here they aren't cheap 😞 like I said before the problem isn't having what you need it's available but everything as a price tag on it ☺️

CDPO16 profile image
CDPO16 in reply to

I bought mine for about £30 but there are far more expensive ones. They aren't available on prescription here. Batteries last ages and the readings are comparable to the one my nurse uses. I have ambulatory oxygen and short burst oxygen and without it I'd have no idea whether my blood oxygen levels were at a safe level or not. Your use of oxygen would be safer if you could get a reasonably priced one and check with your pulmonary consultant what level he would like you to maintain. Just a thought Davey. I appreciate that life there isn't easy from a medical point of view.

in reply to CDPO16

I'm having a consultation with the pulmonologist on Thursday so I'm going to ask her about this I'm writing all this down so I don't forget 😂 do tend to forget things a lot these days 😂😂 once again thanks for your advice . 👍 Always appreciated

CDPO16 profile image
CDPO16 in reply to

If I don't write things down it either doesn't get done or said when having a doctors consult.Try and have a good long discussion on Thursday. Maintaining oxygen levels that are right for you is so important. Too much is just as dangerous as too little and she surely knows that.

You need to know when you are using oxygen all the time how many litres a minute is right for you and it should be regularly monitored and reviewed.

It's often said here that we have to stand up for ourselves to get the care we need. The same may or may not apply there but don't be fobbed of, it's your health at stake.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

in reply to CDPO16

I will do and yes if you don't scream and shout you don't get anywhere even here 😂 it's all wrong mind you it's us that have the problems not them ☺️

Wow! Scary experience. I bet when you woke and saw that lovely blue sea you thought for a minute you'd already passed over! At least there's no one sitting on a cloud with a harp!

I can't imagine what it must have felt like but at least it was a decent view!

Hope you are feeling better today and the oxygen is helping. xx Moy

in reply to MoyB

All seems good today thanks , with the heat I honestly thought I had gone the other direction 😅😂😂 but yes definitely a lovely view better than most UK hospital I suppose

Lucky they got you to hospital quickly. Hope this will be alleviated by having oxygen with you constantly.

in reply to Dedalus

Oh yes , it scared the hell out me . You can put up with different pains but when you can't breath it's a whole new ball game 👍👍

Mavary profile image
Mavary

Oh no! I hope you’re feeling better now. When I saw the first picture I thought that was the view from your house. You look after yourself.

in reply to Mavary

No view from my second home the hospital 😂😂 from home number one I have views of two mountain's one in front and one to my left oh and one behind with a large cross on the top but the houses behind block the view of that 😂😂

Mavary profile image
Mavary in reply to

Oh that’s a shame. Could you not tell them to move the houses!😆🤣😂

in reply to Mavary

The beach is only a ten minute walk away from my house well for someone who doesn't have breathing problems anyway 😂 if I walked it like last time I went it took me an hour and a half with Many stops on the way 😂😂

Mavary profile image
Mavary in reply to

Have you not got a scooter? You would be 5here in a few minutes then.

in reply to Mavary

Because of the seizures I'm not allowed to drive or ride unfortunately and when out walking I'm supposed to be accompanied 😅😅😅

Rest up xxx

in reply to Patk1

I wish I could , but nappies need changing and I won't leave my stepfather in a wet nappy , I know some care workers here will only change a nappy twice a day regardless what is in it . I will point out there are no Greek care workers there usually Albanian , polish or Rumania the Greeks tend to look after their own family members. 👍

Hi! I ordered an oximeter for £3 from aliexpress.com. They deliver pretty much all over the world. Maybe there is even an aliexpress.gr? Perhaps you want to try it. Love to you both!

in reply to Marionmarion

Thank you I will have a look online but going to see neurologist, cardiologist and pulmonologist tomorrow all three together in one hit thought I was seeing them at Different times but been informed this afternoon it's a joint venture I'm to take all my scans bloods results spirometry readings x-rays everything with me I have a large bag which holds all my medical stuff in so long day for me I think 😂😂

Marionmarion profile image
Marionmarion in reply to

All 3 at the same time for VIP-Davey! 😉 😇

Ask them for everything you need incl. an oximeter! A free professional one cannot harm!💪

Best of luck for tomorrow! We will all be thinking of you! 🤗 😘

in reply to Marionmarion

Thanks I'll be keeping everything crossed well mentally anyway if I did it literally they might commit me for being an English weirdo . Hopefully gent some help from them

Marionmarion profile image

No, open up! 😅 🍀 😘 🤗

in reply to Marionmarion

Everything was explained in full today so going to digest it all . I do get checked out every week at a clinic in our village so not complaining one bit .👍 Melting at moment high40s 🥵🥵🥵😅😅

Marionmarion profile image
Marionmarion in reply to

Good stuff! Did you get your oximeter?

Seriously? High 40ies? That is Celsius/Centigrade and in the shade?? 😮

Well, keep cool then.. in all directions! 😀

Do they speak a brilliant English or is your Greek that good?

in reply to Marionmarion

The neurologist was English Greek Greek parents but was born in UK and only been back her past five years . He's brilliant he explained everything the pulmonologist and cardiologist said , basically I don't have to buy anything as my BP sugar levels and O2 levels will all be checked every week and once a month I will get a full MRI scan . Lesions on both my brain and heart caused by hypoxia attacks two years ago but not dealt with at the time . Basically I have to live with the seizures and have to have someone with me if I'm out not allowed to drive in any description . Got all night under the stars to absorb everything.

Marionmarion profile image
Marionmarion in reply to

Wow. Well at least they are spending some money on you at last! I saw your new post as well now. Do all these specialists live on Rhodes or do they travel to get to you?

in reply to Marionmarion

They live on the island all private but do some work for the hospital . The neurologist actually works from euromedica . And he's English Greek . In the village we have hematologists aswell all have their own practices radiology department at hospital hardly gets used I go to a special clinic that cover CT scans MRI scans x-rays and also ultra sound scans all cost 70euros except MRI full body is 190 Euro you get print outs of all scans and a hard copy on disk to take with you .

Marionmarion profile image
Marionmarion in reply to

Sounds posh! But you don't have to pay for all that?? 😧

in reply to Marionmarion

Hell yeah I've spent all my back pay from ESA to cover all my scans and stuff bloods work costs fourty euros a pop . For me to see the orthopedic doctor for my four annular tears three herniated discs and all seven discs are also compressed will cost me 800euros for the consultation I can't have surgery because my lungs I wouldn't get out of Anaesthesia so he would send me for a tailor made Orthopedic support better than one I have . You get nothing for nothing 😞😞😞

Marionmarion profile image
Marionmarion in reply to

Oh dear! Is your stepdad greek? You have no chance to relocate to England or at least fight for an upgrade in ESA? At the end it was the DWP who got you in this mess!?

in reply to Marionmarion

No step dad is English but refuses to return to the UK . And yes the dwp decided to listen to lies from my ex wife to the medical facts Infront of them and their own jobcentre sanctioned my visit here . Bloody ridiculous . Now sat waiting for my reply to pip who have completed everything apparently according to the last call I had 😂😂

Marionmarion profile image
Marionmarion in reply to

Well then best of luck! Hope that will be helping more or less sufficiently! 🙏

Question now how much do you pay for the calls?? They don't mail, do they?

in reply to Marionmarion

40 plus in centigrade 🥵🥵🥵🥵
