Im sitting here stifening laughter, ( but I shouldn't be ) there is some characters on this ward,some rather sad but I always find the funny side of things , I have a young guy swearing his head off on his phone to his mates , one man who thinks he's at the hippodrome watching a play, another who constantly wants to shine his shoes and a lithario who wants to take the nurses to a disco , haaa such is life in a northern town hospital , I think everyone can see I'm starting to get cognitive again, isn't it great what z little oxygen does for the old brain cells, my battery is running out so I'll wish you all a breath easy day and send my love to you all

They are now in my grab-and-go bag along with spare pants, copies of all my letters, puzzle books, copy of recent prescription etc that goes with me even to OP appointments!
I went for an OP appointment for a TOE, had a reaction to the sedative (went spark out) and got inhalation pneumonia and was admitted for 6 days! I spent the first 24 hours or so using hopital stuff as I had none with me. So I now go prepared !
I hope your organisational skills are infectious-I never remember vital stuff in my grab and go hospital bag.By the time am in a/e looking a fetching shade of blue which clashes with my make up it's a trifle late to remember my toothbrush .

Oh I know that game all to well. I was on 3 different wards in one hospital stay and I was next to or opposite Dementia patients each time. Also had a an Afganistani lady who spoke, sorry bellowed, down the phone to her son three or four times a day. I learned the word for Commode in her language which did save her crying when the nurse didn't understand quickly enough and a bad result occured 😔Hope you just have a short stay and recover well
Also had 4 changes of ward in 12 hours -was whisked away from gynae ward to respiratory ward just as lunch had been served -am still waiting for my promised pudding to arrive - years later!.Am traumatised!!!!!!
I refused to move the 3rd time till after tea because it was Friday & fish & chips 😄 so sorry you didn't get your pudding hope you don't acquire PTSD about desserts like I acquired Covid from a lady who coughed all night & was finally moved in the morning. Too late 😕I was being discharged 10 days later, all going to plan, tablets tick transport tick ..... back comes the Dr draws the curtains round the bed " I'm afraid a bit of bad news" told him i could guess what 😷 what fun . Asked if I still wanted to go home because having Bronchiectasis could be a problem. Ah very kind says I but No I've got a O2 sats monitor .. I'm off. Could write a book !
Oh Dave, I had to laugh because my mum is in hospital at the moment and is probably one of them!!! She seems to become really delirious after anaesthetic for a week or so, so yesterday she was apparently chatting away to me thinking I was there, and today I saw her and she thought my cousin had come down from Cardiff and was there too when all the hospital was being knocked down 🤣🤦♀️🤣

When they turned yhe lights down in the bay bert ( from bert and Ernie ) thought a show was starting and asked if it was a film starting or a musical , I was seriously guffawing at that, all we needed was basil faulty to come prancing in barking orders 😀
I find it mildly entertaining during the long day but I’m less delighted at night. Wishing you a speedy recovery….all the way to your home very soon! x
Im really sorry to know you had to be admitted to the hospital. It sounds very entertaining there, for want of a better word. I hope you'll be feeling better soon and able to go home before too long. Sending you lots of good wishes.
A few grumpy faces here this morning after bert and Ernie ( not real names) was shouting all night ,I called them bert and Ernie because they look like the characters from sesame Street 😆
Long long nights in hospitals. I usually get next to some poor soul with dementia, often unobserved and you then feel responsible to supervise them no matter how poorly you may be!! Hope you get sorted and home soon. Cx
Yes! You go in for a minor op and come out with heart problems and panic attacks caused by the Olympic pole vaulting, venflon cannula throwing ,screaming contestant from the next bed. Not to mention Mr potty throwing, slippery bed escape artist opposite!
Then….. in the daytime when you really need a rest from your night shift/ terrors you get a kind lonely person that gives you all her entire graphic health history and operations ( including gynae) forcing you to become the deranged patient cos she won’t leave you r bedside!!🤦♀️🤯
God help you should any patient find out you work in a hospital!!
You’ve got to be fit to be in hospital these days and have a week studying how to turn off bleeping devises you may be attached to. 🤣😂😂
It was bad enough when t he doctors found out I was a microbiologist. When i was still working i got the staff popping over to visit. I also got a room to myself because i was a TB risk from working with it. That I really appreciated. I am just the hoi polloi now I am retired
Last time I spent so much time fetching and carrying for the others as I was still mobile when they weren't. That was my last PE and came home after 3 days thank goodness. At least they were quiet.
Big change in meds so slight improvement today C. Absolutely shattered from only 45mins sleep, but OK we are all watching bert and Ernie sleep, we know what's coming ( shivers)
Soulboy, I remember too well how frustrating it is to be on a noisy ward. The nurses offered me ear plugs and sleeping tablets. I said Yes to both and from then on things improved - one night I even slept through a thunderstorm with cracking lightening!
Terrible Disease My Mum Has It Bless Her Robs You Of Memories And Once One Section Of Your Brain Has Been Taken Away It’s Locked Up.. Devastating For All Especially For The Dementia Person 🖤🖤
Lovely to hear you are on the mend....lol...hopefully you will soon be able to go home for a rest? I was very lucky that I had coverage on the ward for the internet and was able to catch up with many programmes I had never had the time to watch.
Full Internet on wards here ,official nhs net but fast enough to watch live football and netflix etc , I won't be going home for a fee days at least my d-dimers are up so its injections in the stomach and scans for a few days to make sure covid isnt producing clots which apparently it does in some patients.
D.dimers. I was lucky I never had that problem but my C reactive protein remained very high and that delayed my discharge. Hopefully your figures will shortly allow you home.
Well, you really do see life in hospital, don't you. I have encountered similar characters when I have been in. Not so good when they pull out their cannula and spray blood everywhere with no nurse in sight! Or when they are admitted loudly to the ward at 3.00am, but can add to the daytime interest. Better than the tele at times.Hope you're soon able to get back home to a bit of peace and quiet.
Brilliant, when I was improving in hospital with covid last year, there was a lady who was on her phone to the family (loud speaker and video) all the time. She even took them to the loo with her and carried on talking to them when the consultant was there!
My friend's daughter is in hospital waiting for an emergency gall bladder operation- was told yesterday someone on the ward has covid so no one is allowed to leave the ward- they have to use a commode and no showers as I presume the rooms are along the corridor . Hope your stay is more pleasant though it seems very entertaining. Hope you're out soon. x
You’re an inspiration to us all, sir - wish I could be so positive under the same circumstances (or any circumstances for that matter)! You definitely deserve a full and speedy recovery (and keep off the laughing gas!).
You’ve entertained us with tales from the front line but it’s really awful. When you’re ill you need rest and sleep not the cast of Sesame Street acting up! Hope they release you soon.
Sleep is hard to come by on a busy nhs ward as I found out myself when I was kept in the respiratory ward overnight after blood clots in my lungs and overnight it was noisy!
I'm not being horrible but the bay sounded like a victoriana mental asylum ,I can feel the tension building from the other people in the bay about tonight ,we will just have to see how tonight is ,people are at their wits end with these two poor guys
I really feel for you Soulboy and hope you get better soon so you can get back home to sanity and a good meal. I hear so often how many people are in hospital with dementia. I really do think this needs to be tackled in a different way, perhaps have special hospitals that deal just with dementia patients, how can poorly people get better when their sleep and rest is so disrupted and how can the poor nurses cope with running round after these people. You can write your book when you get home x
