While the challenges of double mutation coronavirus variant are yet to subside, another new lineage of SARs-COV-2 has been traced in West Bengal. Scientifically termed as B.1.618, the proportions of this new variant has been growing significantly in West Bengal, as per experts.

The triple mutation coronavirus variants, which is a combination of three different COVID strains, is identified by a distinct set of genetic variants including E484K, and is being called a major immune escape variant, which means that the variant has the ability to evade antibodies produced by people who have already recovered from COVID-19 infections.

Flipping heck, poor beautiful India. It seems madness when a country who have the wherewithal to manufacture covid vaccine can have this going on. Not right

In a way it was perhaps to be expected when you see the mass gatherings shown on TV. There was also a report this morning by and Indian doctor who said that a large percentage of the population still don't believe that the virus exists and have not taken up the offer of vaccination. So sad for the many suffering, dying and the over run hospitals.

I saw this in the news and could'nt believe how many people have travelled back from india. It doesn't make sense that until last week we have been unable to travel to Wales let alone India. It will be no surprise to anybody that this variant will be rife within a few weeks here in the UK and so sad as we have been doing so well.

My husband was watching the Cricket from India a couple of Months ago & the Stadium was packed with people, masks sitting under their chins !!! . Apparently it was known a month ago & nothing was done about Flights coming in from there .

I hope that this sort of information helps both our government and people in general to be less complacent about relying on the vaccination programme. Yes it is a wonderful adjunct to the overall behavioural guidance but the full community resistance to developing variants is not yet known. Let’s give the scientists a break and maintain some status quo in behaviour patterns while this investigation goes on. There is no doubt that we can pass out of this stage but not if there is a drive to get back to behaviour that facilitated earlier spread.

Meanwhile spring is here and the new growth is flowers and hedgerows is heartening.
